ROBERT LEE O’BRIEN
Robert Lee O’Brien, 76, Beaverton,
died December 31, 1999. A memorial
service was held Jan. 4, 2000, in the
Community Church of Cedar Hills. In
terment was in Willamette Cemetery.
Mr. O'Brien was born Dec. 14,
1923, in Los Molinos, Calif. He served
as a medic in the U.S. Navy during
World War II and was awarded the Pur
ple Heart medal. He graduated from
the University of California.
He married Bonnie J. Burton in
1953; they moved to Beaverton in
1963.
Mr. O’Brien was a member of the
church, and was a Little League base
ball coach for many years.
He developed and was president of
a wholesale pharmaceutical company
in Casper, Wyo., and later worked for
Sharp & Dohme, now Merck, Sharp &
Dohme, for 35 years until retiring in
1985.
Survivors include his wife; daugh
ters, Sally Mancini of Menlo Park,
Calif., Gail Boyle of San Carlos, Calif.,
Kathy Brekken of Vernonia, Evelyn A.
of Beaverton, and Susie O’Brien-Borer
of Bothell, Wash.; sons, Mike of Both
ell, Casey B. of Beaverton and Richard
A. of Hillsboro; five grandchildren.

the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Mr. Thompson was bom June 10,
1947, in Oakland, Calif., to Hallie W.
Thompson Sr., and Dorothy L. Hetzel
Hill. He grew up in the Oakland area
and graduated from Encinal High
School in 1965.
He served in Vietnam with the Ma
rine Corps. He earned a Purple Heart
before being discharged in 1969t.
In 1993, he married Julie Engen-
Bertram in Hillsboro. They lived in Cor
nelius.
Mr. Thompson was a distribution
clerk with the U.S. Postal Service for
the last four years, and was a machin
ist for most of his life. He worked for Si
mons Cutting Tools of Portland for over
13 years, and for Estacada Lumber.
He was a member of the Cornelius
Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; two
daughters, Desiree Thompson of Cor
nelius and Meghan Thompson of Gre
sham; five step-children, Jake, Rebec
ca and Rachel Bertram, all of Cor
nelius, Elizabeth Bertram of Banks;
and Ronda Fiske of Portland; three
grandchildren; his father and step
mother Hallie W. and Barbara Thomp
son, Sr. of Castro Valley, Calif.; his
mother and step-father, Dorothy and
Maynard Hill of Portland; six brothers,
Richard of Avery, Calif., Kenneth of
Gresham, Steven of Hilmar, Calif, Ted
of Nashville, Tenn., David Hill of Port
land and Steven Hill of Centralia,
Wash; three sisters, Christine Bryant
and Joelle Fuller, both of Portland, and
Cleta Clieman of Groveland, Calif; one
uncle, and one aunt.

ELLA M. BERG
Ella Mae Berg, 91, Hillsboro, died
Dec. 12, 1991. Funeral services were
held Dec. 17 at Emmanuel Episcopal
Church in Vesper (near Birkenfeld),
with the Rev. Steven Maling officiating.
Interment was at Fishhawk Cemetery.
Mrs. Berg was bom Nov. 29, 1908,
in Vesper to John Faucett and Mabel
Annie (Laughry) Johnston. She re
ceived her early education in Birken
feld, then attended Oregon State Uni
versity, graduating with a degree in
home economics in 1930. She married
Russell Berg in Vesper, also in 1930.
She taught in Ferndale, Calif., for
nine years and operated a high school
cafeteria during World War II.
Mrs. Berg lived in Fortuna, Calif.,
for 49 years before moving to Beaver
ton in 1992. She was a member of the
OSU Alumni Association.
She was preceded in death by her
husband in 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Allan of
Hillsboro and Roger of Beaverton; six
grandchildren and nine great-grand
children.

MARJORIE J. McCORMACK
Marjorie Jane McCormack, 73, Dal
las, died Dec. 5, 1999, at a Salem hos
pital At her request, no formal services
were held.
Mrs. McCormack was bom March
15, 1926, in Olympia, Wash, to Dr.
Kent W. and Florence Berry.
She was raised on the Olympic
Peninsula and attended Pacific Univer
sity. She interrupted her studies to
raise a family and work on the family
farm, but later completed her educa
tion, earning a bachelor's degree in so
ciology in 1983.
In 1946, she married Clyde Austin
McCormack at the Little Chapel of the
Chimes in Portland. They owned and
operated the family farm off Highway
47 between Forest Grove and Banks.
Mrs. McCormack retired, leaving
the farm after the death of her hus
band, and had lived in Dallas for the
last 15 years.
She had been a volunteer in a wide
range of 4-H programs for over 50
yeras. She was also active in the Soci
ety for Creative Anachronisms, and the
Scottish Rites Temple and Preserva
tion Society in Dallas and Salem.
Survivors include two daughters,
Gayle Ann McCormack of Forest
Grove, and Kathleen Mary McCormack
of Haines; a son, Alan Eugene of Su-
isun City, Calif; and one grandchild.
