vice, Area Soil and Water Con
servation Districts and Oregon
Department of Agriculture.
The April 3 workshop will
consider pre-construction is
sues and the steps to take in
constructing a farm pond. It will
explore the reasons for having
a pond (options for use, includ
ing fish production, recreation,
wildlife habitat, etc.), provide
an overview of aquaculture,
and discuss issues such as
pond site evaluation, water
rights considerations, construc
tion and other permits, pond li
ability concerns, and pond de
sign and construction.
The April 10 workshop will
consider useful tools for effec
tive farm pond management. It
will explore pond management
objectives, principles of pond
ecosystems, using a pond to
enhance wildlife habitat, fish
care and production, pond
maintenance and weed control.
The cost for each workship is
$25 per person, which includes
a packet of resource materials.
The workshop fee is payable at
the time of registration. No
credit cards.

Third annual Job Fair sponsored
by MTC and Employment office
The third annual Columbia
County Job Fair will be held
March 10, 2-6:00 p.m. in the
state office building in Suites
300-320, 500 N. Columbia Riv
er Hwy., St. Helens. (At the
back of the old hospital.) The
job fair is sponsored by Man
agement & Training Corpora
tion (MTC) and the Oregon
Employment Department (OED).
Area employers, including
Wal-Mart, US Bank, Safeway,
Gunderson, and many others
will be in attendance this year,
along with training and educa
tion professionals. Employers
will be on hand to discuss their
businesses and employment
opportunities.
There will also be three
workshops:

with Evelyn Roth;
• 4:00 p.m., Job Search on
the Internet, with James Penley;
• 5:00 p.m., Resume Writing

Evelyn Roth has over seven
years experience with the
OED. During the past year, she
has been in the Research and
Statistics Unit researching la
bor market information. She
can tell you where to find the
fastest growing jobs.
James Penley has been with
MTC for four years working as
the marketer and, currently, as
the computer instructor. Along
with teaching daily classes,
Penley has set up the Internet,
e-mail addresses, and a web
page for MTC. Last October he
was chosen to do a computer
presentation at the Oregon Ed
ucation & Training Association
conference in Kahneeta. He
will represent MTC, as a pre
senter, at the National Associa
tion of Workforce Development
Professionals conference in
San Diego this May.
Tim Ragan has worked with
MTC for four years, teaching
employment skills. Ragan was
also chosen to do a computer
presentation last October at
the Oregon Education & Train
ing Association conference in
Kahneeta and will represent
MTC at the National Associa
tion for Workforce Develop
ment Professionals conference
in San Diego this May with
Penley.

a new Oregon State Fair logo
The Oregon State Fair & Ex
position Center (OSFEC) is
looking for a new permanent,
year-round logo and is spon
soring a contest to see who
can design the best one. The
winning entry will receive
$1,000 as payment for all rights
to the logo.
“The State Fair is an event
for all Oregonians, and in that
spirit we want to include every
one in this opportunity,” said
Lin Murakami, OSFEC Market
ing Director. “We’re excited
about the prospect of seeing
entries from young and old,
students and professionals, ru
ral and urban residents. This is
a chance for us to recognize Io
cal talent, and it will certainly
be a distinction tor the winner.”

The new logo should be rep
resentative of the entire agency
and suitable for permanent,
year-round use on letterhead,
business cards and other
items. The current OSFEC logo
is a simple ribbon design. The
State Fair event has its own
separate theme and logo that
change from year to year,
