Obituary ELIZABETH J. MATZEK Elizabeth Jean Matzek, 80, Forest Grove, died Nov. 26, 1998, at her home. Private services were held Mrs. Matzek was bom Oct. 31,1918, in Comax, British Columbia, to James Ross Lee and Ella (Randall) Lee. As a young child she moved with her family to Vernon­ ia, where she was raised. She graduated from Vernonia High School in 1936. She married Jules Clifford Matzek in 1939 at Seattle, Wash. They lived in Forest Grove. Mrs. Matzek was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her hus­ band, in 1995; and five siblings. Survivors include her son, Randall C. of Prineville; daughters, Julie L. DeLucia of Abilene, Texas, and Kathleen A. Allen of Portland; sister, Mary L. Waters o, Fortuna, Calif.; six grandchildren; numerous nieces ________ domelen) Vanderzanden. She attended St. Francis School in Roy, and graduated from Hillsboro High School. She married Eugene Neketin in 1940, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy. They lived in Seattle, Wash., then moved to a farm on David Hill in Forest Grove. Nine years later they moved to Northern California, and to Brookings in 1956. Mr. Neketin died in 1962. In 1963 she married Leo Poutre, in Brookings. They lived in Brookings until moving to Forest Grove in 1983. Two years later, they moved to Portland. Mrs. Poutre worked for Jantzen Knitting Mills in Portland before her marriage, and then was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church in Portland and St. Antho­ ny's in Forest Grove. She was past presi­ dent of Disabled American Veterans Auxil­ iary in Forest Grove. Mrs. Poutre was preceded in death by her son, Phillip D. Neketin, in the late 1980s; and a brother, Norman. Survivors include her brother, Ernest Vanderzanden of Independence; sisters, Marie Evers of Dayton, Phyllis Landauer of Forest Grove, Mildred Leveque of Banks and Barbara Wales of Brookings; a sister-in-law, Virginia Vanderzanden of Ver- boort; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Noles, 63, died Nov. 24, 1998. A funeral Mass was Nov. 28, in St. Francis Catholic Church in Sherwood. Recitation of the Rosary was Nov. 27, in Cornwell Colo­ nial Chapel in Wilsonville. Interment was in Mountainside Cemetery in the Scholls area. Mr. Noles was bom March 16,1935, in San Francisco. He moved to the Portland area in 1945 and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Mr. Noles married Arlene M. Goin in 1954. They moved to Tigard in 1966 and to Wilsonville in 1994. He was a claims investigator at Port­ land General Electric Co. for 42 years and retired in 1997. He then worked in the same field for SIMS (Self-Insured Management Systems). Mr. Noles was a member of the church. Survivors include his wife; son, Dave of Tigard; daughter, Sharon Douglas of Poway, Calif.; mother, Dorothy Noles of Jewell; brothers, Skip of Tigard and William of Sherwood; sisters, Sylvia Palm of Mil­ waukie and Jan Carney of Tigard; four grandchildren. As sponsors of the 1998 An­ nual Food Drive, the PTA would like to thank all of those people who spent Saturday, Nov. 21st getting cold and wet picking up food from all over Vernonia. We had lots of volunteers from indi­ viduals and families to our community’s organizations helping round up food for Ver­ nonia Cares Food Bank. A special thanks goes to Vernonia Pteschool who donat­ ed paper and use of their copy machine to make flyers and maps so that everyone could be notified of the event. Thank you also to everyone who contributed food — the re­ sponse was heartwarming and greatly appreciated! it made gathering food in the cold rain well worth it!!
