Smith chosen to lead state SDAO
Sally Smith, Columbia 9-1-1
Administrator, has been elect
ed President of the Special
Districts Association of Oregon
(SDAO) at a meeting of the
Board of Directors in Salem.
SDAO provides a variety of
services to special districts in
Oregon, including cost effec
tive insurance pooling and leg
islative representation. A mem
ber since 1991, Smith supports
the work done by the Associ
ation and sees this new re
sponsibility as both a challenge
and opportunity.
“As President of the Associ
ation, I face many challenges
over the next year, not the least
of which will be the Oregon
Legislature and its numerous
bills affecting emergency ser
vices,” Smith said, “but with
these challenges also come
opportunities.
“By joining other special dis
tricts, Columbia County has a
greater voice on state issues
that directly impact our local
communities,” she added.
Smith, who has served as
Columbia’s 9-1-1 Administrator
since 1991, is the first woman
elected President in the Asso
ciation’s twenty year history.
