JANE NELSON Jane Nelson, 70, Portland, died May 5, 1997, in Hillsboro. Memorial services were held May 10 at the Sunset Grange in Manning. Mrs. Nelson was bom July 10, 1926, in North Bend. Her maiden name was Weir. She married Nils H. Nelson in 1947 at Vancouver, Wash. They lived in several Oregon communities be­ fore settling in Portland. Mrs. Nelson was an active mem­ Grange for more than 30 years. At the time of her death, she was a member of Sunset Grange 941 in Manning. Survivors include her husband; sons, Louis of Hillsboro, Nils Harvey of North Bend, and John of Pendle­ ton; daughters, Cristina Kilbum of Everett, Wash., and Elaina Parks of Beaverton; seven grandchildren; 10- step-grandchildren; five great-grand­ children; eight step-great-grandchil­ dren. DONNA L MEYERS ber of the Grange. She originally joined the Grange in Columbia Coun­ ty and was active in the Aloha Donna L. Meyers, 69, died May 10, 1997. Private cremation rites were held. Inurnment was in Union Point Cemetery in Banks. Survivors include a son, Dennis G. Stathas of Portland; daughter, Lin­ da L. Mueller of Buxton; three grand­ daughters. Fuiten-Rose Mortuary Chapel of Forest Grove was in charge of ar­ rangements. MELVIN “PETE” LEE SR. Melvin Joseph “Pete" Lee Sr., 83, Banks, died May 17, 1997, at Tuality Hospital in Hillsboro. Graveside ser­ vices were held May 20 at Gales Creek Cemetery, with Muriel Marble, of the Gales Creek Church of God, officiating. Mr. Lee was born Nov. 22, 1913, in Gales Creek to William and Dora (Smith) Lee. He gtfew up on the fami­ ly homestead with eleven brothers and sisters, and attended Gales Creek school. He worked in the timber industry, spending summers in Alaska and re­ turning to Banks during the winter. >! > S He retired from logging in 1975 be­ cause of a back injury. After retiring, he moved to LaPine and Redmond, then returned to Banks. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters: Goldie Lee, Wesley Lee, Merle Schofield, Ruth Hult, Alta Day, Blanche Heuer, Rena Cutright and Reatha Lee. Survivors include two sons, Melton of Forest Grove and Melvin Jr of Cornelius; a brother, Conrad of Salem; sisters, Lois Johnson of Gales Creek, and Lennie Schofield of Albany; a special friend and compan­ ion, Katherine Wolf, Banks; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchil­ dren; num erous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial contributions to Rescue 13, Tri-City RFPD, 300 Main Street, Banks 97106. Forest Grove Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. i
