Zr» J u n r r a / cJtrr Metro West takes EMT response Good ambulance and paramedic service is still available to people in the Ver nonia Rural Fire Protection District, but there will be few er volunteer EMTs respond ing to calls in the district. EMTs are available to re spond during the remaining hours, but there are not enough to cover days be cause most of them work at full-time jobs. The district’s goal is to con tract with Metro West for one paramedic 24-hours-a-day, plus a second person week days from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Again, volunteer EMTs will fill the remaining shifts. The district board of direc tors last week reaffirmed a temporary contract with Metro West Ambulance service that will run through the end of March and started discus sions toward a permanent arrangement. At this time, Metro West is providing one paramedic and one EMT-Basic, from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Volunteer EMT volunteers at the meeting concurred with the proposal. They will meet be fore the next district board meeting, April 8, to take a vote on the proposal. Obituary RUBY P.
