Four teachers will leave 47J, new classes added at high school
Vernonia High School stu­
dents will have the opportuni­
ty to choose from two new
classes during the 1995-96
school year.
A construction class will in­
volve removing one of the old
m odular buildings on cam ­
pus, which are currently used
only fo r storage, and c o n ­
structing a new storage build­
ing.
The second new Cass will
be Math 111, a college-level
a lg e b ra cou rse. It w ill be
taught by Bob Finnell, a full­
time math instructor at Port­
land C om m unity C o lle g e .
High school stu d e n ts who
complete the course will re­
ceive tra n s fe ra b le co lle g e
credits for the course.
Students planning to enroll
in Math 111 m ust take the
ASSET test prior to registra­
tion. August 21 has been ten­
tatively set for the test. Cost
of the 4-credit course is $33
per credit, plus a textbook.

One teacher will be added
at Washington Grade School
to reduce fifth /s ix th grade
class size. Another classroom
will be developed by moving
some non-classroom fu n c ­
tions to the school basement,
opening a room on the main
floor for the additional class.
Macintosh computers now
turn in the fall. Resignations

Barrall and Ken Brown, both
from Lincoln Grade School;
Rebecca Bruns, special ed
teacher at VHS, and Susann
Ragsdale, who taught begin­
ning algebra and com puter
programming at VHS.

PCC course on writing planned at VHS
W riting 115, a course in
English composition, will be
ta u g h t M ondays, from 6-9
p.m. at Vernonia High School,
startin g Sept. 18 and c o n ­
cluding Dec. 4, 1995.
The Portland Community
C o lle g e co u rs e w ill c o v e r
grammar, sentence structure,
basic essay and punctuation.
It is a transferable, non-reme-
dial course.
The instructor will be Lor­
raine Teegarden, who has
taught at the U niversity of
Idaho and Shasta College, in
addition to PCC.
The cost is $33 per unit for
the 3-unit class, plus a text­
book. Teegarden w ill bring
the books to VHS so students
won’t have to go to the PCC
campus bookstore. Registra­
tion will take place at the first
class.
