Cherries, berries should soon be abundant locally

early this year, according to

Early varieties will be ready to
pick during the last week of
June. Ready picked ones
may be available just a bit
earlier. Earliblue and Bluetta
are two of the early varieties
which can be found through
out the area. From July 1 - 4
later varieties will be coming
on. The berries at higher ele
vations generally have later
picking dates. The season
lasts into September.
Sweet cherries grown in
the va lle y have a s im ila r
ripening schedule. Dark cher
ries such as Vans and Badas
will be ready by the fourth or
fifth week of June, depending
on the location. Royal Anne
cherries will be at their best
July 1-4 depending on loca
tion. Hungry birds and rain
may have significant impact
on the lo cal crop. A good
crop of pie cherries will be
ready from about July 4 -15.
Ever-popular blackberries
have a wide number of vari
eties ripening in July. Find
ready and u-picked Marion,
Kotata and Boysenberries.
These berries will have excel
lent crops this year.
