Last month's presentation on steam whistle
logging in the Northwest was a great success.
About 70 people attended. The Friends of the
Library are considering making a logging pro
gram an annual event. Anyone with suggested
topics relating to early logging is welcome to
call the library. The Friends are also interested
in borrowing any old photographs or memora
bilia that could be used in a display. Call 324-
1382 if you have ideas or mementos to share.
7 he Shady Evergreen Quilt is progressing
nicely. Quilters are working on it most Thurs
day evenings at the old Banks City Hall. If you
would like to quilt and chat with this group,
please call Jami Masson at 681 -9453 or Don
na McCall at 324-3404 for dates and times.
The completed quilt will be raffled off at the
Banks Barbeque in August. Raffle tickets are
on sale at the library for $1.00 each or 6 for
$5.00.

search results, as well. In order to load the
new program, our computer will be down from

checked in and out as usual during that time,
but since there will be no courier, books will
not be delivered from other branches.

New at the library is the complete Boxcar
Children series and Second Nature, Alice
Hoffman's tenth novel. In this modern fairy tale
Robin Moore rescues an innocent man mis
taken for a beast. There, on a tiny island
where all things are possible, where deer can
weep, winter ice turns blood-red and roses
bloom all at once, Robin begins to realize the
intricacies of what it means to be human,

Pride is. It is not a club or or
ganization, but a grass-roots

ages and walks of life, meet

on the problem s Vernonia
faces. It’s a spirit of the peo

come.
April 30th is Spring Spirit
Day in Vernonia. It is a day of
work and play, beginning with
a town “Spruce-up”, followed
by a spaghetti feed/pie social
and auction to raise funds for
community projects. Every-
one of us has something to
contribute-manpower, equip
ment, auction items, etc. If
you want to become part of
the solution, please join your
friends and neighbors on the
30th as we ga the r to help
make Vernonia a town we
can truly point to with pride. .
