from a diary kept by Mrs. E.E.
N icke rso n in 1891. The
punctuation and spelling are
as she wrote them.
At the close of our city's
C e n te n n ia l c e le b ra tio n , it
seems appropriate to write
about how people lived here
100 years ago. This little bit
describes the day by day ac
tivity of those who lived here
many years ago. It's really
not so different from life to
day, as we go about our daily
chores and work.
Mrs. Nickerson’s diary cov
ers her days' activities for a
few years. It, plus a few oth
er diarys of early valley folk,
are here in the m useum .
They are interesting and fun
to read.
The O regon C o u n cil of
Teachers of English is putting
together a six volume anthol
ogy of Oregon literature. The
museum has been asked to
help with old diaries and let
ters that are interesting and
have warm human content. If
you have any letters or d i
aries that you would like to
possibly have included in this
project, contact me.

1981 was a very successful year in Real Estate
for me, and I would like to take this opportunity
to thank all who made it possible. It's been a
pleasure to help make dreams come true!
My 25 years as a school employee in the com
munity was very rewarding, to be able to start a
new career and be successful has been a great
bonus. As a long-time Vernonia resident (I still
live on the street I was born on.), I have always
been interested in the history, present times and
future growth of Vernonia.

Crafters invited
to exhibit wares
Crafters are being offered
the opportunity to display and
sell their craft creations at this
year's Columbia County Fair,
July 22 - 25, in the "Fair Mar
ketplace." A $30 fee will se
cure a 10’x10' space; sellers
m ust p ro vid e th e ir own
booths. All types of crafts will
be accepted.

"Fair-y Tales Come True."

show will be the return of the
