The first sign of economic
development related to the
new Banks Vernonia State
Linear Park is the opening of
Coast Range Bicycles, by en
trepreneur Bob Ragsdale
The shop is presently located
at 717 Rose Avenue Vernon
ia. in the building adiacent to
Ralph Sturdevant's service
station
A long standing interest in
cycling as a physical fitness
sport led Ragsdale into rac
ing com petition where he
held the Oregon State Veter
an's Championship in 1973
and was runner up for the
title in 1974
Because of his interest in
racing, he became a skilled
Cedarside Inn lays

Working nearly around
the clock for three days,
Cedarside Inn's owners. Ray
and Rose Foster with a cou
pie of helpers removed the
old floor and supporting joists
in the restaurant section of
their business
They then
tilled the empty space with
sand and topped it oft with a
new concrete floor
The change, Ray Foster
said was recommended by
the county health depart
men, though it wasn't re
quired

wheel building business and
developed a reputation for

At present he is attending
an advanced c’ass in bicycle
mechanics to upgrade his
wheel building frame repair

committee was selected by
the Vernonia Area Chamber
of Commerce to begin plan
ning and coordination of sev
eral different activities which
attect the economic climate
of the area
