Throughout the weekend, David’s Chair Outdoor Mobility Systems will bring seven electric all-terrain wheel- chairs to the Promenade between Broad- way and Avenue A free for mobility chal- lenged guests. David’s Chair mission is to empower mobility impaired people to enjoy outdoor activities. “We see the need to serve the Portland Metro area and so many people want to use our chairs at the beach,” Steve Furst, the founder and CEO, said. “We want to help create lasting memories and we fi gured that we could do that on Independence Day and chose Seaside because it is a des- tination spot and it is close the the Portland Metro area. Sixteen people are signed up, but, Furst said, “we can handle many more than that. We use two-hour time slots and will be running multiple chairs each slot. We expect that there will be several people that stumble upon us over the weekend so we believe we will provide our services to many more.” Seaside Signal Gearhart Members of the Oregon Veterans Motor- cycle Association assembled Saturday morn- ing at the Turnaround to begin their road trip across the state to raise awareness of 1,000 Oregonian soldiers missing in action or pris- oners of war. The association, with chapters in Bend, Eugene and Salem, is one of several state veterans motorcycle groups. The ride launched in 2020 when more than 80 motorcyclists rode to celebrate the renaming of the POW/Memorial Highway from U.S. Highway 26. Larry Moyer, a U.S. Navy veteran rep- resenting the High Desert Eagles, said the unearthing of former mass burials in Viet- nam are providing DNA to help identify military personnel killed in the Vietnam confl ict, providing some level of closure for their families. “Remains to this day are being freshly turned in,” Moyer said.
