MARX Seaside Signal The sale of a 2010 pumper truck will enable the Seaside Fire Department to upgrade to a new truck designed for extreme applications in both urban, wildland and beach settings. Seaside Fire and Res- cue received an off er to pur- chase the department’s 2010 Pierce pumper for $200,000 from Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus, LLC. Funding of $470,000 for the Rosenbauer Timberwolf and delivery to Seaside would come from the sale of the 2010 pumper, the rest obtained through department funds. “This is a good off er for the city of Seaside,” Fire Chief Joey Daniels said at last Monday’s City Council meeting. The deal comes after a “constant history of issues” with the 2010 truck, Daniels said. “If it was a light that didn’t work, sure, whatever, we can fi x that. But when we have pump failures and fi re- fi ghters are concerned about whether it’s going to work when they’re using it, that does bring things home.” While maintenance issues are always addressed right away, he said, “after four of them, we really start feeling that the vehicle may not per- form. We think at this point $200,000 is a very good investment toward the new unit.” The high trade-in value of the Pierce pumper surprised Daniels and City Manager Mark Winstanley. “I have never seen trading value on a truck that we’re getting on this,” Winstanley said. “We literally have given away fi re trucks, because we couldn’t get anything for them. That really cements this deal for me.” Councilor Tita Montero asked if the purchasers were aware that the pumper was “kind of a lemon.” All maintenance and pumps are up-to-date, Dan- iels said. “It’s being sold ‘as- is’ to an apparatus company,” he said. “They buy old fi re trucks and resell them.” Councilors and Mayor Jay Barber unanimously approved the sale of the old truck and purchase of the new truck. The Rosenbauer Timberwolf is both a city and off -road response vehicle. PUBLIC SAFETY LOG SEASIDE POLICE DEPT. PUBLIC SAFETY LOG Oct. 8 5:42 a.m., 400 block N.
