Morris stars in Oregon All Star series

The Astorian
Seaside’s Justin Morris,
a Class of 2021 senior, took
part in the Oregon 4A All
Star series, June 19 through
June 20 at North Marion,
where Morris was 5-for-8
at the plate with four RBIs,
and also pitched four innings
and struck out four batters.
He is playing for the Lower
Columbia Baseball Club.

The Astorian
League champion Banks
dominated the spring 2021
Cowapa all-league football
awards.
The Braves, who fin-
ished 4-0 in league, had the
Cowapa’s Offensive and
Defensive Players of the
Year (Charles White and
Tyler Exline), while coach
Cole Linehan shared the
Coach of the Year award
with Astoria’s Howard Rub,
whose team finished at 3-1
in league.
Banks had six players on
the first team offense and
five on first team defense.
Seaside’s first team mem-
bers included Lawson Tala-
mantez (junior, tight end),
Andrew Teubner (senior,
running back), Kaleb Bartel
(junior, kicker) and for the
second straight season, all
three Seaside linebackers
(Teubner, Talamantez and
Tanner Kraushaar) made
first team defense.
Astoria’s first team
selections included senior
receiver T.J. Colvin, senior
offensive lineman Mike
Berger and senior run-
ning back Michael Moore
on offense; senior linemen
Daniel
Emerson-Palmer
and Alexander Marin-
covich, senior defensive
back Dylan Junes and junior
defensive back Rocky Rub
on defense. Junes was also
the first team punter.
At the 3A level, the
Coastal Range all-league
team included every War-
renton starter, highlighted
by Players of the Year
Hordie Bodden and Sam
Irwin.
In the 2A Northwest
League, Knappa players
gained 13 spots on the all-
league team.
The upcoming East-
West Shrine game on Aug.
7 in Baker City will include
three local players on the
West roster — Seaside’s
Teubner, Irwin of Warren-
ton and Knappa’s Cameron
Miethe.
The annual game, which
makes its return after being
canceled in 2020, show-
cases the top 1A-4A seniors
in the state from the 2020-
21 school year.
Tony Tumbarello, Asto-
ria — The former Fisherman
also played in the 4A All-Star
games, helping the North
team win two of three games
to win the series. After a 10-2
win for the South in Game
1, the North answered with
victories of 9-1 and 17-4.
Tumbarello was 2-for-5 and
walked twice at the plate,
and played left field. He
plans to play next season at
Linn-Benton
Community
College.
Jackson Arnsdorf (Asto-
ria), Corvallis Knights —
Arnsdorf has a 1-1 record
in eight appearances, with
one save. Has pitched 12
2/3 innings, with 13 strike-
outs, nine walks, nine hits
allowed and a 4.26 earned
run average.
Conor Harber (Astoria),
Acereros de Monclova — In
his second season in the pro-
fessional Mexican League,
he has started nine games
pitched 43 innings in 2021
for the defending Mexican
League champions.
Jake Morrow (Warren-
ton), Willamette Wild Bills/
Portland Pickles — In a
21-14 win over the Portland
Gherkins last week, Morrow
was 2-for-3 and scored four
runs with two RBIs. He is
among the hitting leaders in
the Wild Wild West League.
He was picked up by the
Portland Pickles of the West
Coast League this week.

Willamette Wild Bills.
Dale Takalo (Knappa),
Cowlitz Black Bears —
Has started two games this
season, and pitched 20 1/3
innings in 10 appearances,
with 15 strikeouts, six walks,
24 hits allowed and a 5.31
ERA. The Black Bears host
the Portland Pickles July
20-22.

The Astorian
Seniors Tristyn McFad-
den, of Seaside, and Shelby
Rasmussen, of Astoria, were
honorable mention picks to
the Cowapa all-league girls
basketball team this season.
League champion Valley
Catholic — along with play-
ers from Astoria and Banks
— dominated the selections.
The Valiants, Braves and
Fishermen each had three
starters on the first team, tak-
ing up nine of the 11 spots.
Including
honorable
mention players, Valley
Catholic and Banks had
every single starter earn all-
league honors.
Valley Catholic senior
Josie Napoli was named the
league’s Player of the Year,
Astoria senior Kelsey Fau-
sett was selected as Defen-
sive Player of the Year for
the second straight season,
while Coaches of the Year
were Astoria’s Mike Jacob-
son and Valley Catholic’s
Pat Thomas.
Astoria seniors Halle
Helmersen and Sophie Long
were also named to the first
team, along with Seaside’s
Lilli Taylor, one of just two
juniors on the first team.
At the 3A level, Coastal
Range League champion
Clatskanie had the Play-
ers of the Year (seniors
Shelby Blodgett and Olivia
Sprague), while Willamina
had all five starters earn all-
league honors.
Junior Avyree Miethe
(honorable mention) was
Warrenton’s only all-league
selection.
