Boys soccer wins; Gulls upset on gridiron
Seaside Signal
BUSINESS
Seaside boys soccer cel-
ebrated Senior Night with
their seventh straight win
Tuesday night, a 4-0 vic-
tory over Banks at Broad-
way Field.
Senior Westin Car-
ter scored two second half
goals for Seaside.
The Gulls will now set
their sights on a possi-
ble state championship, as
the Gulls will be part of an
eight-team fi eld that will
compete in a tournament to
determine a state champion.
The
highest-seeded
teams will play at home,
but if the visitor is required
to travel at least 360 miles
round-trip, the contest will
move to a neutral 4A venue.
Seaside (7-2 overall)
will be among the favorites,
along with Marist, Phoenix
and Stayton.
Last week, the Gulls beat
Tillamook on Wednesday,
6-0, and Newport on Mon-
day, 3-2.
In last Monday’s win at
Broadway Field, Newport
scored fi rst, when Bryan
Velazquez-Olivera
took
a ball up the middle and
scored unassisted for a 1-0
lead in the 12th minute.
The Gulls erased the defi -
cit and took the lead all in a
one-minute span later in the
half, scoring at the 31:28
and 32:29 minute marks, for
a 2-1 halftime advantage.
Each team added a goal
in the second half.

viously unbeated Seaside,
18-14, last Friday in Tilla-
mook, in a Cowapa League
football game.
Tillamook built a 12-0
lead in the second quarter,
before the Gulls answered
with a 12-yard touchdown
pass from Tanner Kraushaar
to Jarred White before half-
time, and a 3-yard run by
Aedyn Cook in the third
quarter that gave Seaside a
14-12 advantage.
Tillamook scored to
retake the lead going into
the fourth quarter, and a late
score by the Gulls was disal-
lowed because of a clipping
penalty.
Cook and Andrew Teub-
ner combined for 145 yards
rushing, while Teubner had
10 tackles defensively.
Tillamook had just fi ve
yards passing, with 236 on
the ground.
