Jodie A. (Gelbrich) Myer,
65, died Feb. 10, 2020,
in Virginia Beach, Vir-
ginia. She was born Jan. 19,
1955, in Oregon
City, Oregon, the
daughter of the late
Charles and Karen
(Bigbee) Gelbrich.
Jodie attended
Astoria
High
School and gradu-
ated from Clatsop
Community Col-
lege with an asso-
ciate’s degree in
nursing.
She became a registered
nurse in the early 2000s, and
worked at many hospitals
across the U.S. as a travel
nurse including in Oregon,
Hawaii, Washington, Colo-
rado, Arizona, Maryland and
Virginia.
She had many friends
who spanned the U.S. In her
own words, she was a fol-
lower of Christ, a grandma
and a retired RN.
She is survived by her
son, Jeremy Myer, and his
wife, Rachel, of Exeter,
New Hampshire; two grand-
children, Helena
Rose and Jace
Christopher;
three
broth-
ers, Tim and
his wife, Mar-
cia, of Portland,
Mark and his
wife, Kathy, of
Virginia Beach,
and Neal and his
wife, Annette, of
Canby; and many nieces and
nephews.
A celebration of life cer-
emony will be held at 2 p.m.
Sunday, March 22, at the
Warrenton
Community
Center, 170 S.W. Third St.,
Warrenton.

Monty E. Hamlin, 57, of Raymond, WA died on Feb 12,
2020 in Vancouver, WA. Ocean View Funeral & Cremation

Richard B. Gurwell
(Dick), passed away after a
long battle with cancer on
February 9, 2020, in Casa
Grande,
Ari-
zona. He was 88
years old.
He was born
Aug. 3, 1931, in
Seaside, Oregon,
where he lived,
and went on to
graduate from
Seaside
High
School in 1949.
He then attended
Wa s h i n g t o n
State
Univer-
sity for a year,
and played bas-
ketball for the
Cougars.
He came back
to Seaside, and
in October 1950,
married his high school
sweetheart, Elsie Fern
Smith. They had almost 70
years together.
Dick enlisted in the
Army Engineer Corps,
serving two years in Ger-
many as a fi rst sergeant.
Upon his discharge, he
pursued a career in the tim-
ber industry, and it took
him all over the Northwest.
His life was spent
coaching youth sports. He
spent many years as a Lit-
tle League coach in Rain-
ier, Oregon. He was active
in Timber sports, and
announcing Timber shows
throughout the Northwest.
He worked
tirelessly
for
the
American
Legion, becom-
ing post com-
mander of Post
No. 45 in LaP-
ine, Oregon.
He
leaves
behind his wife
Elsie Fern Smith
of Casa Grande,
Arizona;
two
daughters, Deb-
orah
Fowler
and Roseanna
Wagner; a son,
Richard Gun-
ner Gurwell; fi ve
grandchildren,
Andrew Fowler,
Danielle Stanley, Marcus
Stanley, Austin Gurwell
and Alexandra Gurwell;
and six great-grandchil-
dren, Ty and Kiara Fowler,
Kaylea and Hunter Stanley
and Ada and Lucy Wagner.
A celebration of life cer-

of his Ford on the ice and

There was signifi cant
damage to his vehicle, but
he wasn’t hurt.

the roadway on Feb. 9 at
12:27 a.m., crashing into
the ditch.
The driver was transport-
ed to Columbia Memorial
Hospital and a minor child

ly who lives in the area.

Museum will be the featured
speaker at Seaside Muse-
um’s History and Hops at
6 p.m. on Feb 27 at Seaside
Brewing Co.
Bowman, known for his
vast knowledge of horse
drawn vehicle history and
restoration will talk about
19th-century transportation
and share stories about the
museum’s collection.
The Northwest Carriage
Museum in Raymond, Wash-
ington, boasts one of the fi n-
est collections of 19th-cen-
tury horse-drawn vehicles:
including carriages, buggies,
sleighs, wagons, and histori-
cal artifacts.
The museum was opened
in 2002. Bowman and his
wife, Laurie — the muse-
um’s executive director —
moved to Raymond 17 years
ago and joined the museum
in 2005. The collection has
grown from 21 vehicles to
57, 30 of which Jerry has
restored and conserved.
The event, sponsored by
the Seaside Museum and
Historical Society, starts at
6 p.m. Seaside Brewing Co.
is located at 851 Broadway.
