Seaside ends summer season with win
Seaside Signal
advantage of two Tillamook
errors in the bottom of the sec-
ond, with Johnson scoring on a
wild pitch.
Seaside squelched a poten-
tially big Tillamook rally in the
third by turning a 6-4-3 double
play, and Morris scored on a sac-
rifice fly from Pugh for a 5-3 lead
for the Gulls.
Johnson walked the first two
batters of the fourth inning, before
Seaside eventually turned another
double play to end the threat.
The Gulls tacked on the final
run in the sixth inning, when
Jarred White drew a leadoff walk
and scored on an error.
T
he Seaside Gulls man-
aged to close their sum-
mer baseball season on
a positive note Saturday,
July 13, at Broadway
Field.
Hosting their annual three-
day wood bat tournament, the
Gulls bounced back from losses
on Thursday, July 11, and Friday,
July 12, with a 6-3 win over Til-
lamook in a consolation final on
the third day.
Seaside scored three of its runs
in the first inning, then added sin-
gle runs in the second, third and
sixth innings.
Starting pitcher Brayden
Johnson went the distance on the
mound for the Gulls, allowing
just three hits (all in the first three
innings), with four strikeouts, all
in the final four innings.
Meanwhile, the Seaside
defense backed up their starter by
turning double plays in the first,
third and fourth innings.
The Gulls took a quick lead
when Johnson drew a leadoff
walk in the bottom of the first,
and scored moments later on a
single to right by Justin Morris.
Lawson Talementez and
Andrew Teubner followed with
infield singles, and a double by
Ledger Pugh scored Talementez
for a 3-0 advantage.

the tournament’s opening game against Madison. LEFT Tillamook’s Isaac Hornbeak, right, is caught off

tagged out during a rundown.
SEASIDE — Madison capped
the first day of the Seaside wood
bat tournament with a 7-5 win
last Thursday over the Gulls at
Broadway Field.
The game was tied 5-5 in the
fifth, before Madison took the
lead for good.
Seaside’s day was highlighted
by a two-run homer run for Riley
Kuhl, deep over the left field
fence.
“It was a shot,” said Seaside
coach Dan McFadden. “I’ve
only seen three home runs over
the fence here. And even with a
wood bat — that was amazing.
I’d like to know what he ate for
breakfast this morning.”
All three Cowapa League
teams in the tournament (Astoria
Ford, Seaside, Tillamook) lost in
Thursday’s first round.
