A8 • Friday, June 14, 2019 | Seaside Signal | SeasideSignal.com Jazz stars Tom Grant, Shelly Rudolph in concert Featured at Astoria Golf and Country Club Seaside Signal Tom Grant and vocal- ist Shelly Rudolph appear at the Astoria Golf and Country Club on Saturday, June 15. Their set highlights an eve- ning of music and fi ne din- ing, with an evening opening performance by North Coast jazz standouts R.J. Marx and John Orr. Grant, master instru- mentalist, talented singer and natural entertainer nim- bly walks the line between jazz tradition and modern pop. This soft-spoken Ore- gon native’s inspired song- writing produces propulsive R&B grooves, infectious melodic hooks, and styl- ish ballads with equal ease. He plays jazz piano with the harmonic sophistication and deep sense of swing that only comes from more than four decades on the bandstand. Rudolph has been sing- ing, performing and compos- ing for more than 20 years. Her projects have embraced soul, jazz, blues, R&B, reg- gae and pop. She is currently among the busiest vocalists in Portland, performing reg- ularly every week with her own projects as well as with Grant. Saxophonist R.J. Marx and guitarist John Orr have played top venues on the Coast with their soulful ren- ditions from the American Songbook, with notes of swing, bebop and modern jazz. The event is open to the public; $50 per person. Marx, a Seaside resident, and Orr kick off the music at 5:30 p.m. A buffet dinner prepared by the club’s exec- utive chef, Gehrett Billinger, and his culinary team, fol- lows the opening set. Fol- lowing dinner, Grant and Rudolph will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. To order tick- ets, visit https://www. brownpapertickets.com/ event/4232745. GLANCE BOX Date: June 15, 2019 Who: R.J.
