he Seaside Gulls scored their usual,
routine blowout victory Oct. 5, 36-7
over Molalla at Broadway Field.
The “runaway” candidate for
state 4A Offensive Player of the Year, Sea-
side running back Alexander Teubner ran his
season total to 1,131 yards rushing yards and
24 touchdowns, with four more scores and
171 yards on the ground against the Indi-
ans. With 115 rushing attempts through six
games, Teubner is averaging 9.8 yards per
carry.
No. 1-ranked Seaside (6-0 overall) had
the game locked up by halftime, 22-0, while
the Gulls’ defense held Molalla to just 76
yards in total offense, and 1-for-12 on third
down conversions. Despite four turnovers,

BEAVERTON — A rare road trip — one
of just three regular season road games the
Seaside Gulls will play until a likely trip to
Hillsboro Nov. 24 — turned out to be just
like any other Friday for the Gulls, Sept. 28
at Valley Catholic.
Seaside all over the Valley Catholic Val-
iants, to the tune of a 64-8 final score, the
fourth time this season the Gulls have topped
50 points, in five games.
Running backs Alexander Teubner and
Duncan Thompson combined for 267 yards
rushing on just 12 attempts (over 22 yards per
carry).
It took Seaside only seven offensive plays
to build a 24-0 lead, as Seaside recovered an
onside kick to open the contest, then scored
on Teubner’s 30-yard run, followed by a two-
point conversion.
Following a Valiants’ turnover, Thompson
scored on a 39-yard romp, with a two-point
conversion run by Brayden Johnson.
Seaside converted another turnover into
points, with Gio Ramirez sprinting 29 yards
for a one-play scoring drive, followed by an-
other two-point conversion.
Moving the ball at will, Seaside added
three more touchdowns in the second quarter,
highlighted by Payton Westerholm’s 26-yard
catch-and-run pass to Teubner. Teubner add-
ed two more TD runs for a 45-8 halftime lead.
Teubner rushed eight times for 166 yards,
and Thompson ran four times for 101 yards.
Defensively, Ledger Pugh had five tackles
and two interceptions.

Astoria tops Seaside in Clash

ASTORIA — Tied for third in the Cowa-
pa League standings with 1-3 records is not
where the Astoria and Seaside volleyball
teams expected to be, heading into the sec-
ond half of league play.
But that’s where the two rivals found
themselves Oct. 4 at the Brick House, for
match No. 5 of the eight-match league
schedule.
The winner would find itself back in the
race for second place, while the loser will
have some catching up to do.
Astoria’s Kes Sandstrom hammered out
16 kills, and the Fishermen completed their
league sweep over the Gulls with a three-
game sweep, 25-19, 25-21, 25-16.
The win came five days after Seaside de-
feated Astoria in a best two-of-three match
in a tournament at Hood River.
The Fishermen led from start to finish in
Game 1, building a 13-5 lead behind some
early kills and block by Kelsey Fausett, a
cross-court shot from Taja-Rae Tuimato,
and Tuimato’s sets to Halle Helmersen and
Kes Sandstrom for kills off the block.
Seaside battled back to within 15-13, but
Astoria outscored the Gulls 10-6, with Tui-
mato setting Julia Norris for a kill at game
point.
The Gulls held their only leads in Game
2, at 6-4, 7-5 and 9-7.
Astoria charged back with long serving
runs by Helmersen and Norris, who turned
a 16-12 lead into a 22-12 advantage, capped
by two straight kills from Fausett.
Fausett finished with 26 digs and six
kills.
Again, the Gulls rallied in Game 2 and
pulled to within 23-21 after a pair of Asto-
ria attacks sailed over the back line, coupled
with an ace by Tori Tomlin and Anna Hud-
dleston’s set to Ellisa Blodgett for a kill.
But Astoria called a timeout to regroup,
scored the next point and won a long rally at
game point for a two-match lead.
The third game was never close, as Hai-
ley O’Brien’s long serving run helped the
Fishermen grab a 14-3 lead.
