We have always tried to honor people across the board — not just athletes but people who have been suc- cessful in all walks of life. We honor businesses as well who have supported Seaside High School in so many ways. With- out the community support we would go nowhere.” On Saturday, Sept. 30, members of the public have an opportunity to meet inductees from 5 to 6 p.m.; a banquet in the Seaside High School cafe- teria takes place Saturday at 6 p.m. Dinner tickets are $20; children 12 and under, $10. All proceeds to funding the Hall of Fame scholarships in memory of Bob Mork. The committee gives two $500 scholarships every year. Nine individuals, two teams and two teams are being inducted into the Seaside Hall of Fame: • The 1963 golf team was the best 2A team three years running, and the only A-2 team to make it to the state golf championships. Rich Schroeder, who was named to the all-state team by scoring a 146 2-under two-day total, was joined on the team Allen Rein- nikka, Mike Graham and Reid Larson. • The 1982 track team asserted their dominance in the Cowapa League, shatter- ing team and league records on their way to the 3A state championship. Kris Beneke, Nancy Baty, Margie Morris and Stephanie Morris held the fastest AA 1600-meter relay time in the state and are hon- ored this year in the hall. • Seaside High School counselor and track coach Neil Branson is recognized by the Hall of Fame committee as a fan and supporter of all stu- dents and their activities: artis- tic, academic and athletic. He is described by the committee as: “Confidant, support person, problem-solving resource, ex- perience provider and listener. He had a positive impact on hundreds of students and staff and their families. • Bob Chisholm, who spent his entire life in the Seaside community and gave his life in trying to make a water rescue, is inducted after consideration of his volunteerism and service to Seaside and Gearhart. • Jo Ellingson, class of 1988, was an outstanding stu- dent athlete at Seaside High School, named all-state and all-league in cross country, track and basketball. She has served as a cross country and track coach at Seaside High School for several years. • Matt Elmes was a two-year varsity letterman in basket- ball and one-year letterman in cross country. Elmes also was a four-year varsity golf letter- man, and was to win the Ore- gon Coast Invitational in 1986. • Jason Goodding was a 13- year veteran in the Seaside Police Department. He was working as a patrol sergeant when he was killed in the line of duty. He as an active volun- teer in the girl’s basketball pro- gram in Seaside. He coached teams as well as helped get girls to Cedar Ridge basketball camp. • Mathematician Lowell Edwin Jones was the out- standing student at Seaside High School. He attended Reed College and received his Ph.D. from Yale in mathe- matics in 1970. He joined the faculty of the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1975, where he has spent his career as a profession of math- ematics specializing in topolo- gy and geometry. • Charlene Schulze Lars- en, class of 1961, worked for Pacific Power for more than 37 years. She volunteered her time with the Miss Clat- sop County. Pageant; Astoria Regatta Association, Seaside Symphony and North Oregon Coast Symphony, Scandi- navian Midsummer Festival among others. In 2011 she was bestowed the Astoria-Warren- ton Chamber of Commerce George Award for her commit- ment to the people of Clatsop County. • Musician Sally McBride is celebrated for her career accomplishments, starting at Seaside High School where she was a musician and ac- companists for vocal groups at the school. During her music teaching career, she was elect- ed president of the Oregon Music Education Association and served on state, regional and national music education committees. The endowment in her name supports the an- nual children’s concert by the THANK YOU, seaside! Hood To Coast / Portland To Coast Relays would like to thank the City of Seaside, Seaside Fire and Rescue, Seaside Police Department, and Seaside Chamber of Commerce for hosting the 36th HTC/PTC Relays Finish Party. Your beautiful city and county were on display this year for participants from all 50 U.S States and 37 countries. We would also like to thank Clatsop County public safety, residents, and businesses for your patience and support. $19,000 will again be donated to Seaside Parks and Recreation. With more than 60,000 individuals visiting Seaside for The Hood and Portland To Coast Relays, this visit represents a first impression to a captive audience that very often leads to future visits for these individuals and their families. This is an economic impact that goes beyond measure and one that can very often be a lifelong development of future memories in your town. Additionally, participants raised a record amount of over $725,000, which benefits Providence Cancer Center and their continuous efforts to find a cure for cancer. Corvallis OSU Symphony for Benton County Youngsters. • Julie Visser, class of 2002, is celebrated by the committee for her state swim- ming championship, breaking the state record in the 100-yard butterfly, which was held by her older sister. While attend- ing the University of Tampa, her teams won the Sunshine State Conference Champion- ship and they placed in the top five of the NCAAs. • All Rents Tools and Equipment, started in 1986 by Frank Orrell, will be induct- ed for Orrell’s willingness to assist the nonprofit Seaside Kids and other community projects. Orrell is known for his generosity and support of youth sports. • The business of Steve Winters Plumbing, owned and operated by Steve and Rocky Winters, will be induct- ed into the Hall of Fame. The local business, started in 2004, has been involved in sponsor- ing local soccer teams, Wheels and Waves car shows and coaching youth sports teams.
