Parade of Lights

Gingerbread tea at Butterfield Cottage
For the 26th year, the Seaside Mu-
seum and Historical Society hosts its
annual gingerbread tea at Butterfield
Cottage. Enjoy homemade gingerbread
with a variety of teas, hot cocoa and
spiced cider while being entertained
by live holiday music. Musicians this
year include the North Coast Ukulele
Strummers and Linda Nielsen.
Horace Seely Butterfield, a prom-
inent Portland jeweler, built the But-
terfield Cottage in 1893. The original
location was at 21 North Columbia. In
1984 the Butterfield Cottage was given
to the Seaside Museum and Historical
Society and moved to its present loca-
tion at 570 Necanicum Drive. It has
been interpretively restored to be used
as a museum depicting a beach cottage
and rooming house of 1912.
The Butterfield Cottage will be dec-
orated in Victorian holiday style and
open for gingerbread tea from 1 to 4

others. The ticket includes admission
to the museum’s exhibits in the Helen
Gaston Building during the day of the
event. The museum and cottage are lo-
cated at 570 Necanicum Drive in Sea-
side, four blocks north of the Seaside
Convention Center.
In addition, raffle tickets, at $1
each or 8 for $5, will be available for a
drawing to be held at the end of the last
gingerbread tea, at 4 p.m. on Dec. 17.
Gingerbread Tea at Butterfield Cottage
is the major annual fundraiser for the
Seaside Museum and Historical Soci-
ety which is a non-profit educational
institution with the mission to collect,
preserve and interpret materials illus-
trative of the history of Seaside and the
surrounding area. The museum is open
Monday through Saturday from 10
a.m. to 3 p.m.. More information can
