Multiple agencies help in serious rollover on Highway 26
Troopers had just arrived at
the Elderberry Inn Restaurant
for a scheduled meeting and
quickly took control of the
scene, supplying irst aid to
the injured operator of the log
truck. The troopers utilized
their patrol vehicles to stabi-
lize the truck and trailer until
ire personnel arrived, as well
as assisted Hamlet Fire &
Rescue in extricating Budge,
who was trapped.
Budge was transported
to Oregon Health & Science
University by Life Flight
with serious injuries. Miller,
sustained minor injuries and
went to a local hospital. The
investigation continues.
Highway 26 was closed
for 4.5 hours for the investi-
gation.
“When we arrived, there
were logs on the highway,
on the shoulder — a little of
everywhere,” Seaside Fire
Chief Joey Daniels said.
“We helped picking stuff up,
helped with trafic control af-
ter they shut down the high-
way.”

A log truck that rolled over
after a crash on Highway 26
Thursday, Aug. 18, caused
serious injuries and closed the
highway for several hours.
Hamlet Fire was called to
assist Elsie-Vinemaple ire
with the incident in front of
Baker’s General Store. Units
from Banks and Seaside ire
departments were called in to
assist as well.
The investigation found
that a loaded log truck, oper-
ated by John Thomas Budge,
55, of Vernonia, was traveling
westbound on Highway 26,
just passing the Elderberry
Inn Restaurant, when it struck
the rear of a 2003 Ford F550
tow truck, operated by Fred
Baltin Miller, 72, of Seaside.
The log truck traveled off
the roadway, struck an em-
bankment, overturned and
lost the load of logs across the
roadway.
At the time of the crash,

in area. Oicers on priority call.
Caller later reported there were
no more ireworks.

A: A disoriented woman located
by police was given a courtesy
ride back to her husband.
6:30 p.m., 700 block S. Edge-
wood: A caller notiies police
about a suspicious cooler. Upon
police investigation, it turned
out to just be a cooler.
2:33 a.m., Avenue A: Caller
reports someone driving
past the barrier on the beach
access road. Oicers contact
subject who says they are
waiting to pick someone up on
the beach. Police advised this
is a no parking zone; subject
moved on.
Aug. 17
9:45 a.m., 800 block N. Lincoln:
Caller requests welfare check
on a female who had not been
seen or heard from in two days.
Oicers responding discovered
the woman was OK and that her
cell phone was not working.
12:46 p.m., Police Station: A
person came in to register as a
sex ofender.
6:57 p.m., Forest Drive: Medical
emergency response was dis-
patched to a residence. No fur-
ther information was supplied.

Police respond to a report of
teens overheard concocting
a plan to jump of the bridge.

as pedestrians.

1:23 p.m., 400 block N. Prom:
A motor vehicle hit and run
accident is reported. No injuries
were involved.
2:43 p.m., 10th Avenue: Caller
reports a person lying down in
the street. Subject was gone on
police arrival.
9:55 a.m., N. Holladay: Oicers
respond to a call regarding a
female wandering about who
did not know who she was, or
where she was. She is a cared
for at home dementia patient
who had wandered out of her
room. The family was notiied of
her whereabouts.
2 p.m., Tillamook Head: Police
receive a call regarding a UFO
lying over Tillamook Head;
caller reports her neighbor also
saw it and not just her. Oicer
checking the area was unable
to locate anything except for
a vapor trail, possibly from an
aircraft.
2:49 p.m., Downtown: A missing
person was reported. The person

civil matter after a husband tells
police his wife is not permitted

10:27 a.m., Roosevelt and Les
Schwab: Traic is tied up due
to a truck broken down in the
roadway; police talk to one of
the vehicle’s occupants who
says the men are getting a new
battery. She is advised the truck
must be moved as soon as
possible.
10:43 a.m., First Street and
the Beach: Caller requests a
welfare check regarding a
woman passed out in her car;
the woman tells police she is
not sleeping, but waiting for
a friend who is about to be
released from jail.
11:07 a.m., 1200 block and S.
Downing: A caller pretending
to have warrants that could be
lifted if a payment is made con-
tacts a Seaside resident. Police
ascertain the number is one
to be known with fraudulent
6:42 p.m., 1000 block S. Roo-
sevelt: A person came to the
police station seeking a stalking
protective order from an ended
relationship. Suspect persists in
sending lowers and emails to
the subject’s place of business.
Police advise her of her options
and entered the emails into a
case ile.

7:56 a.m., 1000 block S. Colum-
bia: Caller is given options how
to dispose of a dead cat.
Aug. 21
1:25 a.m., 1800 block S.
Franklin: Caller reports a trailer
blocking the bicycle pump
track at Cartwright Park; on
arrival police determine the
trailer belongs to a crew setting
up on the beach for Hood To
Coast. The responsible party
was contacted and advised to
move the trailer.
11:58 a.m., 1300 block Halbig
Lane: Report of a male using a
private phone number to ask
creepy questions.
1:25 a.m., 14th and Holladay:
A motor vehicle hit and run
accident was reported.
12:27 p.m., 400 block S. Down-
ing: An individual was arrested
for heroin possession. No
further details were given.
5:11 a.m., S. Roosevelt: Caller
reports a shoplifter; subject had
a receipt for items purchase,
report was unfounded.
7:36 p.m., Semaphore 3:
Subject reports male subject
possibly gratifying himself. After
searching the area, police are
unable to locate.
