Graduating class of 2015 looks to the future

Bussert used her speech to
celebrate the trends, idio-
syncrasies and trademarks
of the Class of 2015. She
read a list she compiled
containing thoughts and
suggestions from fellow
seniors that described
them as legendary pro-
crastinators, a bundle of
unpredictable nonsense,
compassionate, the chil-
dren of history, genuine,
brave, memorable and not

Some items from the
list were simple but en-
dearing — “we know the
Pokémon theme song” and
³ZH¶UH DOO DEOH WR ¿QLVK
everything before mid-
night because of the power
of Dutch Bros. and Pizza
Hut” — and some showed
a serious and thoughtful
nature — “we strive to
help our community” and
“we strive and aspire to be
VHOÀHVV´
“We are who we are,”
Bussert said. “Though we
are weird, we’re also the
best class ever.”
From Clatsop County
dodgeball success to two
golf state championships,
the class has produced no-
table achievements. There
are many words and ac-
complishments to describe
who they are, Bussert said,
but “the best of all is a
simple phrase: together.”
³$QG ¿QDOO\´ VKH FRQ-
cluded, “we got 99 prob-
lems, but high school ain’t
one.”
Trenten Meyer and Jor-
dan Davis also were vale-
dictorians. Christian Avila
was the salutatorian. The
Seaside High School band,
under the direction of Ter-
ry Dahlgren, provided mu-
sic for the ceremony. Pol-
lard conducted the class
roll call, Principal Sheila
Roley presented the grad-
uates and Superintendent
Dough Dougherty and the
Seaside School District
Board of Directors award-
ed the diplomas.
Scholarships awarded to 50 Seaside high school grads
Fifty Seaside High School
seniors were the recipients
of about $400,000 in schol-
arships and awards from the
community, county and col-
leges and universities.
More than 100 scholar-
ships and awards were dis-
tributed to recipients during
the Seaside High School
Class of 2015 Senior Awards
Ceremony on June 2 at the
high school.
6WXGHQWV¿OOHGRXWDQHVWL-
mated 763 applications, and
a vast majority of applicants
received at least one scholar-
ship or award. Local schol-
arships, or those offered by
the communities of Seaside,
Gearhart and Cannon Beach,
amounted to $102,000. Stu-
dents also received $62,000
in countywide awards and an
additional $233,650 from col-
leges and universities.
Overall, $397,650 in
scholarships and awards was
granted to students. Below is
