Report of Adjutant (ieneml Finxer
Calls Attention to Matters Vital
to This Vicinity
SALEM. Nov. 29.—The biennial re
port of Adjutant General Finser of
the Oregon National Guard has been
tiled with the secretary of state. The
report reviews the work of the Oregon
National Guard (or the last two years
and contains a number of important
recommendations for the good of the
organisation.
The total strength of the National
Guard at this time, according to Mr.
Finzen’s report, is made up of 1.407
enlisted men and 110 officers. The
war department contributes material
ly to the support of the militia, but
this is on the assumption that each
company must consist of a certain
number of men. and that each regi
ment must have a full number of
companies.
The annual appropria
tions for the Oregon National Guard
have not been increased since 1901,
and thus it is necessary to get more
money each year and maintain two
full regiments or the government will
cease to continue its contributions for
both regiments. Concerning this, the
report says:
"It is recommended that a contin
uous annual appropriation for 82 4.-
000 additional be made for the main
tenance of the Oregon National
Guard.
"Attention is Invited to the fact
that at the present time the Third
Infantry has but eleven companies
and the Fourth infantry but eight
companies. The secretary of war has
allowed these vacancies to exist until
such time as the legislature has had
an opportunity to provtde for the five
additional companies of infantry. In
order to continue to draw the allow
ance of appropriation from the United
States fof target practice, uniforms
and equipment, it will be necessary
to provide for the existing vacancies
or reduce the organisations to one
regiment and one separate battalion.

of the reservation for the purpose
meutioned was favorable.
In case
the recommendation is agreeable to
I'ri sldent Taft and the land Is set
aside, then Klamath county will have
tik gatherings of soldiers that now
go to American Lake.
Not only that, but there will be an
added attraction for the tourists to
this city and vicinity which will make
Klamath Falls one of the greatest re
sorts on the Pacific coast.
The delightful climate, the cool
pure water and the healthful atmos
phere which renders this part of Ore
gon so conducive to energy all tend
tn make the selection of the lands on
the Klamath reservation the most
ideal for the purpose intended
Ev
