There Is a rumor to th«» effect that
a good prospect of clnnebar has been
struck on Modoc Point. As to the
truth of the rumor we are not able
to vouch at present.
The steamer Eagle was sunk a few
days ago. It seems that the steamer
lay moored to a lea shore In open
water. The strong south wind hav

the low ports, filled the bout until ah ■
sunk.
The box factory Is now running
light handed, just enough to furnish
some of the boys with employment.
The new 100-horse power boiler Is
now In place in the mill, and will be

only for the mill, but for the -lry
kilns.
There will be an entertainment at

Fifty Thousand Hides to Be Hhlpped
to Factory to Be Made
Into Furs
A com mission has been sent to
J. W. Frey, the taxidermist, by a
large furrier establishment to secure
50,000 jack rabbit hides. Mr. Frey
Is paying 10 cents each for the hides
and in addition the county pnys a
bounty of 5 cents for the scalps.
At 15 cents each it is claimed that a
man can make very good wages kill
ing rabbits, besides obtaining consid
erable sport.
On account of the increasing
scarcity of fur animals, Jack rabbits
are being used quite extensively. It
la claimed that after being dyed and
made up they present nearly as good
an appearance as the more expensive
furs.
