The date for the primary election for the nomination of
candidates is April 20. In justice to the voters, who should
have sufficient time for the proper consideration of the
qualifications of the several aspirants for nomination, it
would be well for the candidates to declare themselves
without delay. There has been a good deal of unnecessary
comment as to who are entitled to become candidates. This
is all immaterial, as the private opinions of individuals on
this subject has nothing to do whatever with the case.
According to the Direct Primary law, anyone who is able
to get the necessary number of signers to a petition, can be­
come a candidate, and have his name put on the ballot, to
be voted for or against at the Primary election. It is the
people who will decide on the candidates for the several of­
fices, and the sooner the aspirants for the nominations an­
nounce themselves, the better chance will the voter have to
