We have not been hon ored by a visit from a Republican candidate for congress since Thus. Tongue was here just before he was i elected the second time. Mr. Huston is a prominent attor ney of Hillsboro, and has practiced in the courts of Oregon for 20 years, and is also an ex-state senator. He was in the state legislature at the I time Judge Daly and C. A. Cogswell represented this district. It makes Lake county feel gtxxJ for a man who seeks their support to recognize II as a part of his constituency not to be overlooked. Many of the smaller papers are constantly printing some thing about the support the people should give to the local paper. It is probable that these articles do not have any effect whatever on the attitude of the people and we do not see why they should. It would be considered as very poor business judgement if a grocery or clothing store, for in stance, should produce no weightier reason for asking the patronage of the public, than that they were located in the ty.. n. A business house to secure the trade has to have the goods at the right price to be successful and it is the same with a newspaper. The paper that gives the most news and the best service in the town or country it represents is bound to get the support and patronage of that community. If newspapers were run on a strictly business basis rather than as charitable institutions, there would be more suc- -s in this line. The Republican believes in giving the public their money’s worth, and we expect to receive our (Anhland Record.) Meagra. Quigley, Aiken, Butler, money when the goods are delivered. If there are any of Carter, Winter, Payne and Wagner the subscribers to the Republican who do not believe they returned last Thursday from a Klam are getting value received, we would request them to call ath lake duck hunt.
