Call and examine SPIRIT THAT COUNTS Secretary Worden of the Chamber of Commerce addressed a letter to L. B. Applegate, who is spending the winter at San Jose, California, asking fur a subscription of 160 acres of land to the railroas bonus. The subscrip tion came with the following encouraging words: “Your letter reached me yesterday, and, by the way, it was a very good one. Remarkable, as it may seem, I had already decided to do exactly as you suggest. You must be possessed of some occult power to be able to read me so accurately. “I really think though, the valuation is low, probably too low, for I have no cheap land now since government irrigation is a “go.” The 160 acres I propose donating is in the valley under the proposed irrigating canal, and when the system is completed will be good agricultural land. I think it ought to be rated at $12.50 per acre. “This subscription will go in as that of L. B. Applegate & Sons. Now, I have no land descriptions, etc., here, so you can put this subscription on your list and I will make the transfer all right, when I come up in a couple of weeks or so. “I think every property owner and business man in Klamath Falls should subscribe liberally, for, if this bonus is not raised, although a road uiay be built into the Basin before very long, the probabilities are that it Till sidetrack Klamath Falls. “For obvious reasons, the Wood River country ought to respond liber ally. I think too, the eastern part of the county including Poe, Alkali, Langell and Sprague river valleys, ought to stand in, for when the road is built to Klamath Falls there wil! be a whole lot of business—hauling of freight, driving of cattle, etc., from further east, which will bring money their way, and it may be a long time before they will have a railroad nearer than Klamath Falls. “The Altamont district, and as far south as Lost River slough and Spring Lake ought to help liberally, and it goes without saying, that timber men ought to come to the front.” CRATER LAKE RAILROAD JEWELRY the largest assortment in Klamath. J KLAMATH FALLS AND MERRILL Í According to the Medford Mail, the Crater Lake railroad will be built right away. It says of the preliminary arrangements: “The affairs of the Medford & Crater Lake Railway are progressing as well as could be expected. The topographical plats are being rapidly com pleted and nearly all the rights of way have been secured. “The attention this road is attracting outside this vicinity is great and has resulted in enquiries from eapatilists, contractors, borneseekers, in fact, all classes of people, and the result of its construction will be an immense in-! crease in the population, products and wealth of Jackson county.” But still the Mail man shows many misgivings in the same paper. He ' tells about how certain land owners are trying to play the hog over rights of { way, and gives other facts of causes of delay that wil) compel visitors to the Ft snntai»r attraction to travel by way of Klamath Falls until the new oad comes, and then they will travel this way al) time in future. ♦ W _______ J OF INTEREST TO KLAHATH Largest and Best Equipped Stables in Southern Oregon TOURIST'S TRADE A SPECIALTY C.
