At the last county election the people of Klamath County voted almost unani mously to establish a County High School. Last year the school was m untained in connection with the Klamath Falls Public School, the principal of the pub lic school acting as principal of the high school. This year the county board decided that the high school Should be started on a separate footing and that a princi pal be imployed to conduct it alone. They accordingly have fitted a com fortable room with the best modern school furniture and obtained necessary equipment. The school has good desks, blackboards, dictionary, globe, maps and books. The board is sparing no pains to make it a success. The school is now running nicely and the students are hard at work. The students of the county are somewhat slow about com ing in, not knowing perhaps of the school and its advantages. The State High School course of study has been adopted consisting of four years work. On completing this course a diploma will be issued. This course is followed by the best high schools of the state and the work done is accepted by the state university, normal schools and colleges. Students graduating here will be admitted to the Freshmau class of the University of Oregon. To students ot the county who desire to take a college course, our high school offers an inexpensive and thorough preparation. To those who will not take a more extensive course it gives a good education and prepares them for life’s work. It is hard and expensive lor students of Klamath county to attend schools in other parts of the state owing to lack of communication; but our boys and girls need education, hence the high school is badly needed. It will give our students culture at home. It will interest our children in higher education. It will give new comers and strangers a better opinion of the progressiveness of our citizens when they understand that we support a flourishing high school. Parents should send in their children. The tuition is free. Every attention possible will be given them. Our citizens should support the school in every way possible to build it up. We hope soon to see a handsome high school building that will stand as a monument to our ambition and pro* great. We are justly proud of the above industries as the stock exhibits were a credit to any county, but it is good to know that we are more than a self supporting county. Klamath county has proven that she can grow all the necessaries of life. Take for instance the cereals— wheat, oats, barley and rye. These are grown in abundance—onr flour having a reputation for superiority wherever used. The exhibit of cereals by Caleb Oliver attracted considerable attention and was awarded first prize, It was a fine display ot oats, wheat, barley and rye grown on irrigated ground. It is worth mentioning, however, of several instances where wheat was grown on dry ranches this year that went 20 bushels and over to the acre. Look at the onions as shown by H. N. Whiteline and N. 8. Merrill. We will guarantee that they cannot be equaled anywhere, not only in size but for flavor. O. Short’s display of potatoes cannot be beat, as also the collection of vegetables by the Leavitt Bros, and J. W. Brand enburg. It was shown that nearly every variety of vegetables can be grown here and all of a superior quality. The fruit exhibit was very large this year, THE ASHLAND NORflAL. which does not signify as one would be The Southern Oregon State Normal led to believe that it is one of our main School begins this year’s work Sep industries.
