Prosperity prevails in every part of
the United States and pénétrât« s
every branch of commerce and indus
try. There are no unemployed, the
idleness, want and feverish dissatis
faction of erstwhile democratic hard
times having-1» en replaced by activ
ity, plenty and content.
It must be
admitted that this happy condition is
due in a large measure to the wise
policies of the republican administra
tion, which inspired confidence and
gave new life to the arteries of trade.
the heels of this relief, a federal
quaiantine officer dealt a paralyzing
blow.
He quarantined the whole
state, and now the public is c;tvert
ing around in an effort to be extri
cated from the unhappy plight.
Whether there. is reason for such
drastic measures on the part of quar
antine officers is a question on whit h
opinions differ. At any rate. San
Francisco and other part s of Califor
nia are destined to st.tier greatly as a
consequence.
