In th last 30 years. 800 Bakes of cars have cone and gone.
Of all the automobile companies that were naking cars In 1903, less
than a dozen remain. And of these only a few are the original companies.
One of these is the Ford. ,
We mention this beoause. if you know the other original names, you
will recognize that each stands for something definite in the motor car
world not Just a oar. but a very distinct kind and quality of oar.
That is to say. the car that was designed to fill a definite plaoe.
to do a certain thing, and that pursued its objeotive through all the ups
and downs of change that car lived 1
If you Just make something to sell, you would be better employed
doing something else. But if you sake something that will dd a specif io
thing and do it well, then you are helping people.
We have had Just one main purpose during these years, and that is to
give the people transportation of the most dependable quality at the'
lowest possible cost.
We have followed that purpose through thick and thin. Our car was
called "the universal car" 30 years ago. beoause it fulfilled so many
eeds; it is "the universal car" today for the same reason.
We hay never been greatly excited about yearly models. Whenever we
developed and tested an improvement, we added it to the car without delay.
The Ford car is in a continuous state of growths For 15 years we did not
Introduce a single new model, but the ohanges and improvements that were
'constantly made on the model that was current through that period, were
equivalent to many new models.
But the changes were made to improve the car. not to persuade people
that they ought to buy a new oar every year.- The car we make does not
need to be oast aside every year. At any period a customer buys, .he gets
the best we have .
Our objeotive Is Just transportation f6r ths people; the best
quality at the lowest cost. Nothing but that. Not even the highest sales
record that has always come without seeking. Not even the highest
financial return that, too, has always come, and, we are glad to say,
flowed immediately out again for wages, materials and taxes.
But these are not our main quest. Our main purpose our oonstant
intention our major ambition is to make a oar that will become more and
mora useful, and mors and mors easy to obtain, to mors and more people.
