THE WOLFE

Ex-Beaver Player in
First Bout
Terrible Teddy Thye, weather
ing a stormy rid between the
strong lega of a young Texan,
Lea Wolfe, escaped aeieat at in
Legion hall last night and came
through to a draw la one of the
outstanding bouts of the season.
The two athletes. Thye the
veteran and Wolfe the youth.
worked through a rigorous hour
of wrestling and finished the
match with one tall apiece. II
a decision could hare been pos
sible, It would hare gone to
Wolfe. The rangy Texan had
Thye weak and groggy when the
bell ran.
Wolfe, exercising almost every
hold he knew, finally fell Into
his specialty, the rolling body
scissors and won th first fall In
J J minutes and 16 seconds. HS
won surprisingly for Thye had
him almost out with a series of
shoulder butts.
Both Thye and Wolfe wres
tled evenly that long 39 minutes
and for a tlem It appeared as
though th bout might go to a
draw.
Thve. ex-llxhtweight champion
of the world and one of the real
old timers ot the wrestling pro
fession, recovered from the scis
sor bold during the five minute
rest period. He returned to the
ring to set Wolfe down In less
than 17 minutes.
Terrible Ted won his fall with
a body press after he hsd flipped
Wolfe from the ring with a fly
ing wristlock.
There was only four minutes
to go when the men returned for
th final tall. They started oft
strongly - using shoulder butts,
but Wolfe turned the table with
a string ot flying tackles. He
finally attacked on Thye wltb a
pair ot scissors snd had him al
most gone at the end ot the
honr limit.
Harry Kent, former Oregon
State football star, permitted
himself to be tricked into de
feat by Howard Cantonwins In
the first bout. The lowan, slip
ping Into defeat in a headlock,
cleverly patted Kent's bsck snd
Kent, believing the retere had
given him the fall, released his
hold. He Immediately fell prey
to body alam and body preas.
Cantonwlne took the tall in
seven minute.
Cantonwlne twisted Kent Into
the ropes in the second period
snd knocked hlra out. The ex-
Beaver was nnable to continue
the bout snd loat tb tall on
technical.
