With oth lineups announced
It la hard to vision a Una that

can penetrate either ot the lines.
The westera squad's line will
boast ot Arbelbtde and Srarllng.

George Sander, Washington

and Frank Chrlstensen, Utah.
The eastern squad will hare

Lawrence Ely, that great Ne

The backfield will be compos
ed ot Lew Hlnchman, Ohio State,
Harry Newman, Michigan, Pug
Rentner, Northwestern, Jim Pur-
Tla and Koy liorstman, Purdue,
Jack Manders, Minnesota, and
Gil Berry, Illinois.
With such an array ot stars
a both sides, earning plenty ot
weight and able to steam up a
driving speed, you can look for
deception to win the game.
Both Hanley and Jonea are
known for trick play and the
Incorporation of all styles in
their attack. Kicking and for
ward passing will bear a lot of
weight in the game, as both
aides hate excellent kickers and
plenty of passers and receivers.
The passing attack of the west
win probably center aronud Dru-
ry, paaslng, with Arbelbide, Nes-
olt, Schaldach and Beasley re
ceiving; that of the mid-west
probably will see Newman hear
lag them with Renter, Berry,
Fesler and Fend catching.

The Boston Red Sox appear to
have developed Into a particular
thorn la the collective sides ot the
world's championa.
For the second time the Sox
hare proved troublesome to the
Yanks at a time when they need
every victory they caa get. The
New Yorkers played a double-
header In Bostoa Wednesday,
with a chaace to tie Washington
for the American league before
going Into a "crucial" series with
the Senators, hut they came out
still a game behind after an even
break.
New York won the opener on
Wednesday la a 2-9 mound duel
between Vernon Gomex and Bob
Wefland, la which each southpaw
allowed five hits. Bostoa came
back and smashed Walter Brown
off the hill In the fourth tnniag,
scoring five runs to wia the sec
ond game. 9-4.
Washington was rained out at
Philadelphia.
The Detroit Tigers and Cleve
land Indians, a game apart in the
race for the last berth ia the first
divlsioa, took different routes to
victory. The fourth place tigers
slugged it out with the St. Louis
Browns, winning 9 to 7. Tommy
Bridges provided the winning
runs by hitting a triple with the
bases full Just before he was driv
en to the showers by a tire-run
outburst In the eighth.
Gf iints Keep Lead
Willis Hudlin, six hit flinging
was an important factor la Cleve
land's 7-1 victory over the Chi
cago White Sox, while the Hose
contributed to their seventh
straight defeat by making three
errors la succession In the sev
enth to give the Indians three
runs.
In the National league the
pace-eetting New York Giants
took advantage of the rain that
kept their leading rivals. Chicago
and Pittsburgh, from playing, and
Increased their lead to four games
over the Cubs by winning a twlf
bill from the. Brooklyn Dodgers. '
The clouting of Joe Hutcheson
rookie outfielder, was the only
bright spot tor Brooklyn, as Hal
Schumacher and Hy Bell limited
the Dodgers to four hits to win
the opener 5-3, and Bad Psrmslee
pitched six-hit ball for a 4-3 vic
tory In the nightcap. Hucheson
hit two home runs, driving In
five counters. Mel Ott won the

"Rajah. who thus (ar in 1933

Wednesday when he iras sinned
to manatee the St. LouU Browns.
True to the Hornsby character
istics, the colorful rajah, a
stormy figure of the diamond tor
several years, became hit old
self immediately and announced
he would be a "two fisted" man
ager of the club which now oc
cupies the cellar position In the
American lea it ire.
Hornspy will tafte over the
Browns manasement Immediate
ly and continue In charge thru
the season of 1935. The finan
cial terms were not disclosed. He
lea re the Cardinals, where he
has served twice, once as man
ager and more recently a bench
warmer and occasional pinch hit
ter. "I'm going to be a driver a
two fisted guy with my players."
Hornsby said Wednesday, visibly
pleaded at the "new deal" given
him in baseball's chameleon
changes. "Indeed I am.
"I started that way tn this
game and that's the way I'll
finish.
It was the rajah of old speak
ing. It was the man, who.
though one of the greatest hit
ters ever seen in the major lea
gues, was booed out for his dic-
torlal and arbltrarlal tactics on
and off the playing field. He
returned to the Cardinals this
year.
When It was learned recently
that Hornsby was making a bid
for the Brownie management,
objections were heard In many
quarters, but Phil Dec. Hall, the
owner, held out against all critic-
turn, and was firm in letting It
be known he "owned the ball
club." AH National league clubs
waived on Hornsby, permitting
toe negotiations.
Branch Rickey, who was re
sponsible for sending Hornsby to
New York after the Cardinals
had won the 1926 world's series,
sorved in the friendly capacity
of Intermediary In the dealings
culminating tn Wednesday's de
velopment.
"I am glad to take charge of
the Browns for the remainder of
the season," Hornsby said Wed
nesday, "as then 1 will know the
caliber of playera I will have
tor next year a suud. And
they'll know me, too."
The rajah rose to his greatest
heights when he guided the
Cardinals through the pennant
winning season of 1926 and on
to humble the New York Yan
kees for the world title In the
series when Grover Cleveland
Alexander was the pitching hero.
Troubles and transfers hare

in the ninth.
Johnny Verges was knocked
unconscious for five minutes
when one of Carroll's pitches hit
him on the head, and had to leave
the game, but was expected to be
bark on the job today.
The St. Louis Cardinals climbed
back Into fourth place past' the
Boston Braves by turning back
the Cincinnati Red. 3-2. Bill
Hallahan and Jim Mooney collab
orated In a fonr-hlt pitching Job,
although the former had to re
tire after the sixth because of a
sore arm. The Braves and Phila
delphia had an open date.
