Dear Sirs,' I am reporting to yon an account of accident which happened on Nor. 7. 'li. at my camp, tn which three men were hurt, one dying later In night, one which just became conscious and the other hit in eye. The following are the names and place from which they belong: Ralph C. Miller. '. Ventura. Calif. Dead. Private operator's badge No. 83 found on him. Em ployed aa powder man. About 3 8 years old. Jack Francis Murphy, Bend, Ore. Foreman. Two gaahea on fare, left eye out of commission, bit In aide with rock, and chest hurt. Unconscious since Nov. 7, 1928. till midnight Nov. 9. 192R. Doctors report very favorable chance of recovery. Has son re siding In Bend, Ore., about S3 years old. Tom Carroll. Klamath Falls. Age St. Hit In eye and leg with rocks. Barn man. Miller's body claimed by sla ter. - . The cause ot accident seems to be from old grudge between Murphy and Miller. Men know ing Murphy claim they never spoke to each other and didnt ma to know each other, bnt Miller seemed to watch chance. After quitting time Wednesday nlte when It was thought the powderman bad left. Murphy and Carroll were walking In, Murphy showing Carroll picture ot a baby, when explosion happened. After the charge of dynamite was set oft the men went looking for. Murphy and Carroll and found Murphy about 75 feet from shot, unconscious. Further In vestigations showed Miller either intentional or accidentally had hooked np two wires to battery instead of one and stood In be tween both shots. Just shortly before he died he confessed to men he wanted to get Murphy and left a written note to sheriff explaining things. ' Murphy has been in camp since Oct. 11. '28. and has scarcely rpoken to anyone aince. He feemed to be interested only In a baby's picture, lie Is and was well liked by men employed. Men whs have known him for years couldn't figure out the situation at 2?!. I am compelled to make this report by law. Smith said an, intelligent mi nority was necessary to check the tyranny of the majority, because when the minority wax weak grave injustices occurred. A party only ran justify its ex istence as It operate to promote the welfare and well-being of the people, he said. The principles of tho demo cratic party are as sacred In de feat as in victory. Smith said, and if Its cause waa right before election it still Is right.
