Brake System
Is Improvement
Tho neeeaalty for hlxh peed a
and rapid plrknp In coping with
modern traffic condltlona baa
made the braking ayatem on of
tho moat Important component
parta of tho modern automobile,
according to DeBoto engineers.
For thla reason, they say, Infinite
rare baa boon taken to provide
the new Cbrysler-built DeBoto
Six with four-wheel Internal ex
panding hydraulic brakes, which
aro tho latest word In automobile
braka equipment.
Each year sees motorists driv
ing at Increased speeds. In many
statea. the old-fashioned "apeod
limit" haa been abolished and, as
a substitute, tho driver Is simply
required to have his machine un
der full control at all times. Even
in large eltiea, traffic authorities
are requiring drivers to maintain
a comparatively high minimum
speed In order to expedlta travel.
Tbia condition conld not have

It not for the tremendous ad
vances In stability and certainty
of performance which have been
made In braking equipment.
The brakes of the new DeSoto
Six were designed by the same
engineera who pioneered and de
veloped hydraulic four wheel
brakes for the first Chrysler ear
four years ago. In designing the
brakes for tbe DeSoto, these en
gineers have called upon their
years ef experience in brake de
sign to secure tbe strongest, sur
est and least troublesome brakes
possible.
Equalized Preianirei
In order to atop an automobile
quickly and aafely, DeSoto engi
neers say, it is necessary that
equal braking power be applied
to each wheel. The DeSoto hy
draulic brakes are self-equalising
and their, adjustments are few
and simple. There are no op
erating rods or cross shafts and
consequently there is nothing to
rattle and no joint to lubricate.

The arraignment recently of

of 141 East 71nd street. New
York, before Magistrate Mc An
drews in West Side Court, after
his arrest . for misrepresenting
merchandise has brought to light
a nation-wide swindle in the
sale of tires which is operating
In a number of ststes.
How tho tiro swindlers carry
out their deception oa motorists
by representing their wares, aa
the products of nationally known
rubber companies, but which
were really tho discarded Urea
re-vulcanlxed and encased la
paper wrappers, was described
before tho court as follows:
A truck occupied by two men,
draws np alongslds anotbar ,
motor car halted la traffic. One
of tho men would ask tho driver
of the car it ho wanted to bay
a tiro or two cheap, U. 8. Royal
Cord being tho make usually
offered. They would offer to sell
for I2S.00, two tires priced at
125.00 each, and sometimes
would reduce tho price to $18.00
the pair. When the prospective
purchaser showed disbelief of
their statement they would tear
aside some of tho wrapper and
show tbe V. 8. stamp on the
tire. It tho motorist bought
the tires he would find upon
examining them that they worn
battered need tire and U. 8.
was part of the sump "Made In
V. 8."
Tho nstlon-wide ramification
of this form of tire swindle have
promoted representatives of the
United, states Rubber company
to make a country-wide drive
for the benefit of the robber
