Action was taken by Pollco Com

ing In an exchange of - correspon
dence between Mayor-Elect 'Walker
and Mayor Hylan regarding the for
mer's charges that gambling halls
were allowed to flourish "wide
open," in an attempt to discredit
the Incoming administration.
While Enrlght and Hylan were
deciding to run down every vice
haunt the police could find, Gover
nor "Al" Smith, Walker and Jbdge
George W. Olvaney, leader of Tam

This triumvirate, with the aid of
a new police commissioner who may
be chosen from the ranks of success

of that staged almost two decades

"40 and 8" chapter here last night
The local organisation Is known as
Klamath voiture.
A number of members of the or
ganization came to Klamath Falls
from Medford to attend the gather
ing. .
Bootleggers, however, have laid In
a tremendous supply of beverages,
ranging from humble beer to gin,
wine, whiskey and the more aristo
cratic alchollc drinks. It was made
apparent from a round of the loop.
Dozens of places, masquerading In
various guises, are loaded with
drinkables. .
Beer is available at from sixty
cents a quart to one dollar per
quart, depending on the brew. Gin
Is sold at 5.00 a quart. ' Whiskey,
Scotch and rye, 112.00 per quart.
Wine from 15.00 to 17.00 per gal
lon. The rarer vintages, such as
champagne, are available at 120.00
per quart.
Loop habitues appear to have
little fear of the dry director. They
pointed out that there la little dis
position on the part of the city
policemen to help the dry agents.
In order to properly police all the
cabarets, grills and hotels, some
10,000- officers .would be required.
Yellowley's force Is estimated at ap
proximately 50 men.
