PORTLAND, Dec. 1 Trade In
wool here Is marking time awaiting
the aalo of the 2,000,000 pounds of
Idaho stock to be offered at ter
minal No. 4 a . week from today.
Reports in the trade now are that
a special arrangement has been
mado with steamship officials to
take out this wool to the Atlantic
coast, If sold there. This has been
the stumbling block in the trade
hero, although at the moment the
trade is stilled somewhat by the
lower prlcea ruling In South Am
erica and Australia. Buyers from
the east and mill representatives
sre expected to be present. Mes
sages to local dealers confirm such
lowering ot foreign prices. The
Idaho aales here are expected to be
the pendulum which will awing val

Romance Shattered
DENVER, Colo., Dec. .1. (United
News.) If her mother hadn't step
ped In. Miss Agnes Brierly might
have picked her husband from the
Denver university football team as
she said she would before the game
lost Saturday.
.Agnes promised two of the play
ers that she would marry the one
who played the better game. Both
didn't play so well, judging from
the score and Agnes was faced with
a dilemma. . Meanwhile there waa
a lot of publicity and well, mam
ma stepped in Tuesday and put a
stop to it.
"When Agnes picks a husband
said Mrs. Brierly, "it won't be be
cause he is a good football player.
She didn't really expect to pick a
husband that way. It was only to
encourage the team that site got
mixed up in all this."

BY FIGHT RUMOR
Agrees That Wills Fight Be

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 1. Jack

the rumor , that there is move
ment to "soil out" the much her
alded world championship fight be
tween him and Harr? Wills sched

where next year wl;h Floyd Fltx-

Jack "rushed" a telegrapm Tues
day to Paddy Mulllns, manager of
Wills as follows: .
understand some , persons are
going to New York to negotiate
with you regarding my match with
Wills. . No one is authorized to act
for me . and . Floyd Fltzslmmons
alone, must be considered as the
promoter unless.be violates agree
ment made by him and not South
Bend people, who must be repudi
ated, under existing conditions. Oar
agreement and signatures were to

..Dempsey referred to the financial
backers at South Bend. Ind. He
believes they are seeking to have
the match underwritten by a group
of Chicago promoters and propose
to sain Mullln's consent to a change
In the' agreement, which will take

Eastern Grid Coaches Deplore
Drift From Amateur
Athletiea
NEW YORK, Dec. l.-'RetT
Grange will discover another dif
ference between collegiate and pro
fessional football this eom'.nz week
end, when his team, the . Chicago
Bears, plays three games In fonr
days. .
As every one knows, college
teams are limited to one game, a
week, but . professionals . "barn
storm" . about wherever the cash
box jingles and ' the turn-stlles
click. - "Red", of, course is getting
nald by the tims and so can have
no - objection to making frequent
appearances. The Bears play at
Philadelphia Saturday, New York
Sunday and Washington on the
following .Tuesday.
Whet thla means is that those
who pay their money to see Grange
at his best mar: not do so. The
youngster, despite his ice-wagon
training is not made ot iron, and
waa taking things easy sparing
himself and incidentally will not
play through these games, but will
noear in perhaps two periods.
Tho game next Sunday at the,
Polo Grounds when the Bears meet
tho Giants. Is causing more atten
Uon than did any college game thla
yearhJl6ttena C-l N -Sf i
season. Already the supply ot tic
kets Is practically exhausted, and
the speculators who have been lay
ing off duty since the Army-Navy
game are , making ready for an
other killing.
Speaking at a dinner Monday
night Tad Jones, Fielding Yost, and
Knute Rockne deplored the effects
ot professional football upon the
college game, saying it created too
strong an Incentive to Individual
brilliancy and "grandstand" play.
The Notre Dame coach told some
amusing stories of professional
football in the old days, when the
players did not come out of a
scrimmage and esk "what's the
scoreT" but "what's the gate?"
