"
Don't Neglect. Xor Forget to Vote
"
Your Ward Is Him:. Yiur Councilman Its Void
Voters of the second ward will today cast
their votes for councilman for thatdistrict. It
is up to them to see that the people of the sec
ond ward are vrll- represented. To attain this
end these people must turn out and vote. It
is not only a privilege granted second ward
residents by the constitution of their country,
but also a duty which they owe to themselves
and other residents of the city upon whom, to
a certain extent, their choice will affect in fu
ture questions to come before the council as
a whole in years to come.
Just now Klamath Falls is facing "a period
more or less epochal in her history. The city,
say these who have followed her fortunes
closely from days of infancy, is approaching
the cross-roads which lead into the thorough
fare of prosperity.
Voters of the second ward today will have
seme voice to say in the paving of that high
way along which the city is traveling toward
the goal of progress. That voice can only be
come effective by a concerted vote on the right
man. All will not vote for the best man, per
haps, but a little, thinking will, or should be,
sufficient to guide them to place an X oppo
site the name of the man whom they think will
serve them, their ward and their city best.
.,., Elsewhere in this paper, will ...be printed
boundaries, not only of the ward, but of the
precincts. ' To those who may not be sure of
the precinct in which they live, all they will
have to do is to call up the city hall, any estab
lished business house or the Commrecial club.
The main thir.g to do is VOTE.
The School Book Outrage
Is Our Educational System Perfect?
One little mother complained at paying
eleven dollars for books this year so she could
send her little sixth grade boy to school.
She had to Iiuy one book that she bought
last year for fifty-six cents, and it cost her ex
actly a dollar and twelve cents, so she said.
Think of a family of working people who
have to buy books for six or eight children,
and there are many such cases of large fam
ilies. '
In Portland and many other cities in the
state, collections are taken up to buy and sup
ply children of poor families with school
books.
It seems the entire school machine in Ore
gon is built up to wring as many dollars as
possible out of the people who send children
to school. Yet we are boasting we have the
most perfect educational system in the United
States.
