Common Sense Candidate
SmrA -Vtf
O. A. Smith, who will seek election as
councilman from the second ward, has started
off his campaign with a common sense policy,
which speaks well for him as a future contrib
uting factor in directing the affairs of the city.
Smith, who is a successful business man
himself, is credited with being a sagacious and
trustworthy citizen in his relations with other
men. He is also a well known and respected
citizen of Klamath Falls, a taxpayer and a
resident of this city for a considerable time.
Aride from these. attainments, which ap
parently well fit one seeking public office, he
has evidenced another, and one without which
no man, however well meaning, can add much
to the welfare of any community that of
common sense.
Naturally, many of Smith's friends, who
are backing him in his candidacy, have asked
him what his pclicies would be in event that
he is elected.
Smith's reply was simple, but it gave his
hearers a faith in the man that no proctracted
peroration could possibly have done.
His reply was, in effects that he would be
guided solely by the desire to serve the best
interests of the city, that he had no axe to
grind, and that he was pledged to no man, nor
firm nor corporation.
In this simple, but common sense policy,
the aspirant for the second ward seat indicates
he is not going to put forth any flowery prom
ises which he might find, when seated within
the councilmanic circle, that he would not be
able to fulfill.
Few, if any, men have the perspicacity to
forsee with any degree of surety, events which
may transpire in the future. The majority
of candidates during various elections in past
years have been in the habit of making strong
and verbose promises before election, most of
which, and oftimes all of which, are never
kept at alL
Smith, apparently has too much sense,
knows life and humanity too well to make
promises on situations which neither he nor
anyone else can possibly visualize under
standing. So he makes no rash promises. Instead of
promises, the candidate evidently intends to
give service to the people who place their trust
in him.
