Governor PLvco Eke Discourses
Folillcjl l!ar,tn Again Evident
Governor Walter M. Pierce, in opening
the state's case relevant to the railway hear
ing, in Portland, vhich has centered the eyes
of great financiers of the country upon Klam
ath Falls and the central Oregon district,
again demonstrated to those of his hearers
who listened to his diatribe on the situation
through a purely dialytic viewpoint, that our
chief executive gave thought mainly, not to
the issue at stake, cr its effect upon the people
vitally interested, but to feathering the nest
of his political ambitions.
While the governor's analysis of the rail
way situation made only too obvious the fact
that his words were merely the echo of utter
ances from the lips of others, his listeners
amusedly digested his almost childish attempts
at diplomacy in using the railway controversy
to sprinkle a few aromatic gems of campaign
verbiage before the assemblage, apparently
sublimely ignorant of his Petronistic plati
tudes. Along with his characteristic insoucience
as regards anything that does not directly af
fect his own particular aims and ambitions,
woeful ignorance of the entire situation or
a wilful desire to becloud the railway situation
in the eyes of the commonwealth.
A brief summary of the governor's open
ing statements might well liken his mental
state to that of a hungry petite blanc, bovine
bambino, gazing wistfully into barred pastures
of luscious fodder, and the governor, like his
four-legged companion, also wondering how
he can get through the barbed wire fence of
partisan adversity into the field of political
clover without scratching his back.
Why Invest Blindly?
Get Authentic Advice Before Investing
The public has been warned time and again not to
buy stocks in companies about which it knows nothing.
There is a large amount of money ready for investment
this fall; profit by the following story before spending it:
A girl who had worked for years as a clerk in a store
had saved $800. A smooth stock salesman met her and
painted a glowing picture showing profits she could make
in his company, enough to make her independent for life.
As a matter of fact, the company was not even oper
ating. The girl was so overcome by the story, however,
that she invested her entire ?800 without making any
inquiry as to the merit of the concern. Needless to say
she received no dividends and her capital was lost. Any
banker would have gladly advised her free of charge.
