- Pigs as big around as a
hogshead, and weighing 1,000
pounds on the hoof will be one
of the features of the big swine
show at the Jackson County In

tember 16 to 19.
j Pigs with pedigrees a yard
long, which rank with the best
in the swine world, will wobble
around and show for the edi
fication of fair visitors. There
will be keen competition for
the liberal premium money of
fered by the fair, and the
judges will have a "fat
chance" of making their
awards without a lot of
"squealing."

Large Increase in
Merrill Schools Is
Reported This Year
The Increase in the Merrill grade
schools this year over last year is
mroe than ten per cent, necessitat
ing the employment of a fifth
teacher. The high school enroll
ment is slightly over what it waa at
the same time last year, with
several more students yet to enroll.
Despite this Increase in both the
grades and high school, Lester
Turnbaugh. superintendent ot the
Merrill schools, reports that the
school is better equipped for the
best type ot school work than it
I now used us a library and reading j

are now being given to the studeuts
due to the Increased opportunity
the library room affords for this
project work.
New blackboards are being In
stalled In the grade rooms over the
week-end. and the new furnace
will be ready for use by Tuesday,
September 15. A telephone ia be

A significant fact In the growth
of the Merrill high school Is seen
in that 19 ot the 4( students en

the police and fire departments
should not be made a political foot
ball, subject to the whims of new
administrative officers, but should
be considered only from an efficien
cy standpoint, and for that reason
should be taken out of politics alto
gether. I believe In a clean town and a
wholesome community.
I am in favor of more parks and
playground equipment, toning of the
city into residential ami Industrial
districts, more and better sewer san
itation, more paving, and, principal
ly, repairing Immediately the main
arteries ot travel, such as Sixth
street and Oregon avenue.
Strict rules for sanitation and
health should be enforced for the
general good ot the community and
greater co-operation should be had
between the various departments to
the end that this city should be an
ideal community In which to reside.
In conclusion, I would say that
if elected, I will work for a bigger
and better Klamath Falls.
Respectfully submitted.
