The committees on public lands,
which consider all legislation for the
protection, utilization and disposi
tion of the government lands. Is
very important to Oregon and the
western states, where nearly all of
the remaining public domain Is lo
cated. Senator Stanfield is chair
man of this committee In the senate
and Congressman SInnott of Oregon
in the house.
The committee on civil service
handles all bills referring to the
classification, compensation, work
ing conditions and retirement of fed
eral employees. Senator Stanfield
was chairman of this committee dur
ing the last session and is now rank
ing member, having relinquished the
chairmanship to accept the chair
manship of public lands.
West Is In Power
The committee on postoffices and
post roads considers all bills affect-1
ing the postal rates and service and
the working conditions and compen
sation of the employes in the mail
service. Senator Stanfield is a mem
ber of this committee. When he
was put on it In 1921 be was num

Senator Stanfield is also a mem

fore which all claims against the
government that require congres
sional action come.
Senator McNary s chairman of
the committee on Irrigation and rec

and the semi-arid western slates);
fanning member of the committee
on agriculture and forestry (which
handles the appropriations for high

Such a delegation in congress,
working in full accord and harmony
as they do, will soon make Oregon
an outstanding state In shaping and
directing federal legislation.
It would take new men, even
though blessed with exceptional abil
ity, many, many years to secure such
powerful committee assignments as
the Oregon members now hold, it
indeed, they could ever get places of
such vital Importance to Oregon and
the west.

DEAR FRIENDS: '
The purpose of this Organization (THE NORTHERN JOB
BING CO.) is to furnish the individual store operator with a
greater purchasing power and to afford merchants the oppor
tunity of meeting competition of chain stores, mail order houses
and large associated retail institutions, by taking advantage of
a concentrated purchasing power.
By the establishment of a central headquarters in New York
City for the members of this association, members are enabled
to keep in constant and close contact with the market.
This association has at its head Mr. George Stewart, a buy
er of international repute, who, with his staff c" eight promin
ent buyers, covers the entire field of merchandising connected
with Women's Apparel.
This year thi3 eminent staff of buyers, with their assistants,
have exceeded even our most earnest hopes. We are sure that
friends and patrons of this store will experience grat pleasure
in profiting from our ef forts for them.
