DOES ECONOMY HURT BUSINESS?
The president of the Rotary club at Washington,
discussing business conditions, asserted that "if every
body stops spending money the time will soon come when
nobody will have any money to spend."
This was really a criticism of President Coolidge's
advocacy of rigid personal economy, and but expresses
the growing resentment that prevails among many busi
ness men who say. that this policy is hurting business.
V, hether this be true or not the fact remains that
savings bank deposits are steadily growing. Of course
these funds eventually find their way to stock and bond
markets and make possible the big capital flotations.
-Money may be diverted from one channel to another but
it is never idle. ......
Most people rejoice.in the idea of economy in gov
ernmental matters, and. will support the president in his
efforts to hold them down. The same business principles
should apply with equal force to every other business
public or private. One can't have his cake and eat it, too.

KNITTED SUITS
For the latest fashions in men's suiting Beau Brum
mel8 are learning to look to London rather" than to Paris
The latest vogue calls for "knitted plus fours and ja
sweaters Neither London fogs nor Scottish mists cause
such suits to shrink. The inventor went to Switzerland

the kn.tt.ng needle is mightier than the loom. So novy

There.may be critics of the Pacific fogs, but the boot,

to make a market for the stuff they are putting over.

This ,s doubtless the reason why it takes so much gossip
