Registration Notices
Sent To Boat Owners
Notices are in the mail to
each of Oregon's 60.000 boat
owners indicating boat registra
tion fees which become effec
tive Jan. 1 under the new law,
the State Marine Board has re
ported. The new law combines the
certificate of number, which is
required by federal law and ad
ministered by the state under
the provisions of the Federal
Boating Act, and t h e annual
state boat license, into one an
nual requirement.
The certificate of number was
previously issued on a three
year basis, while the annual
boat license w as in lieu of prop
erty tax.
The Marine Board points out
that the new system will sim
plify boat registration and per
mit considerable savings in the
eost of administration. The
simDlified method will not in.
crease Uie annual registration
fees for boats now numbered.

Evans Enters
Innocent Plea
PORTLAND (UPI) - Robert
Evans, 27, Honolulu, pleaded in
nocent to a charge of first de
gree murder for the second time
in Circuit Court here Tuesday.
The pica was necessary be
cause Evans w as reindicted by
Jury last month to make the
murder charge against him
more specific.
Evans is charged with the
strangulation slaying of Idaho
cattle heiress Irene Davis. 41,
Payette. Her body was found in
a room at the Portland Hilton
Hotel last August.
Evans later was arrested at
Fremont, Neb.
No trial date has been sched

Those boat owners who ob
tained numbers for their boats
in 1962, or during this year, or
who renewed their number this
year, will be given credit on
their f4 fees for time remain
ing on their numbers. This cred
it w ill be show n on the individu
al notices.
In combining the numbering
and licensing requirements the
registration was expanded to in
clude all motorboats using mo
tors over 3.5 horsepower and
sailboats 12 feet in length or
larger.
Regulations will require that
each boat have displayed a
three-inch square decal on each
bow. These dccals, provided by
the Marine Board, will indicate
that the boat is properly regis
tered. The color of the 1964 de
cals will be green.
Included with the mailing of
tlie notices w ill be a pamphlet
titled "Boat Owner's Guide for
Registration."
