Free Meals for Birds

This is the time of
year to make a bird
feeding station. Here
are two ideas you may
want to try. In the
first one, you simply
nail a pie tin to a
fence or clothesline
post. In the second
one, you punch three holes in the edge of
the tin, knot cords through the holes, and
hang it from a tree branch. Be sure to
place your feeding station where you can
have the fun of watching the birds (and
maybe some other creatures, too) enjoy the
feast once they have discovered your free
meal service. Pet shops can supply various
kinds of seed that birds are known to like,
or you can use suet, bread, and other table
scraps.
The Ticking Clock

To play this game you need only a few
players and a loud ticking clock. Give the
clock to one of the players and tell him to
hide it somewhere outside the room. He
can put it under a pillow, behind some
books, behind another clock, or some other
good hiding place. When he calls "Okay!"
the hunt begins. Players will have to keep
quiet in order to hear the tick. The one
who finds the clock is the next hider.
Peep Card

Next time a friend has a birthday, send
him a "peep" card. It's made from a card
board tube such as you find inside a paper
towel roll. Cut two circles of paper a little
larger than the ends of the tube. On one
print a birthday greeting. Then fasten
both circles smoothly over the ends of the
tube with rubber bands, taking care that
the written message faces the inside of
the tube. Now punch a hole in the center
of the other circle. Decorate the tube with
colored paper and ribbon. You'll have fun
making this peep card, and when your
friend looks through the hole, he is sure
to be delighted with your original way of
congratulating him.
