Cranberry
:: Pudding
; MINCED CRANBERRY
STEAMED PUDDING
1 cup sifted cake flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
teaspoon ginger
M teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon grated orange
rind
I 1 cup fine dry bread
! ; crumbs
' ',i cup blanclied almonds,
chopped and toasted
" ','t cup light brown sugar,
firmly packed
H cup butter or margarine,
melted
3 eggs, well beaten
2 2-3 cups (28 ounce jar)
mincemeat
1 can (I pound) whole
cranberry sauce, well
drained
Sift flour, salt, baking pow
der, ginger and cinnamon into
large bowl. Stir in orange rind,
crumbs, almonds and brown
Isugar. Blend in melted butter.
Combine eggs, mincemeat and
drained cranberry sauce. Add
to flour mixture and stir well.
Pour into well buttered 2 quart
pudding mold. Cover with tight
fitting cover. Place on wire
rack in a deep kettle. Careful
ly pour enough boiling water
into kettle to come halfway up
side of mold. Cover kettle and
bring water to boil. Lower
heat just enough to keep water
boiling. If necessary, add more
boiling water from time
to lime.

business, more office equip
ment may be needed than when
records are kept only for Indi
viduals. An adequate business center
must provide a place for writ
ing, storage for writing sup
plies and current records, and
files for records of incomes,
expense, tax returns, and other
important papers.
In a new home the business
center may be built-in. The
family room or den is a satis
factory location in many
homes. Shelves or a cabinet
may be built above a drop
leaf writing desk. The entire
area can be closed if children
play in the room.
Another solution is to build
the business center as part of
a storage wall. Doors which
can be locked may hide the of
fice center.
Good general lighting is need
ed in the area, and also, an ad
ditional light source near the
work surface. This may be a
desk or wall lamp placed so
that K lights the desk top and
does not shine in the work
er's eyes.
At least one file drawer is
needed eilher jn the desk or as
a separate cabinet. .Systematic
filing saves both time and
tempers. As a last resort, a
file can be made from a heavy
cardboard box. An accordion
file is also very useful if the
records are not too voluminous.

Beef Pot Pie
Beef Pot Pie is a good make
ahead dish. Follow recipe di
rections for browning the meat,
simmering In the gravy so pi
quantly seasoned with canned
tomato sauce, and cooking the
vegetables. Then cool and re.
frigerate or freeze until needed.
If frozen, defrost early in day.
Turn into 3-quart casserole and
set in oven heated to 375 degrees
F. for a half hour. Then add
the biscuits and bake 20 to 23
minutes longer. (Biscuits must
be set on hot food, or bottoms
will not cook properly.) Serve
with a salad of grapefruit sec
tions and avocado slices on sal
ad greens with a good sharp
French dressing.
For dessert, caramel or choc
olate pudding, made from a
mix, topped with whipped
cream arid slivered toasted al
monds or buttered almonds.
BEEF POT PIE
(Serving! ()
3 lb. boned beef chuck or
rump, cut into l'i inch
cubes
U cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
' teaspoon pepper
' cup pure vegetable oil
2 il-ounce cans tomato
sauce
2 cups water
'i cup dry red wine (op-
tionl) ,
1 tablespoon prepared
mustard
12 small white onions
6 carrots, cut in large
pieces
1 package refrigerated bis
t cuits (or one 2-cup recipe ;
of baking powder bis
, cuits)
Grated cheese, toasted
sesame seeds, or
chopped parsley
Roll meat in flour, salt and
pepper mixture. Brown well in
riot vegetable oil, in Dutch
oven. Add tomato sauce, wa
ter and wine; cover and simmer
for 2 hours. Add mustard, on
ions and carrots: simmer 20
minutes longer.
Pour meat and vegetable
mixture into casserole and top
with biscuits. Sprinkle biscuits
with cheese; sesame seeds or
parsley.

A simple method of treating
mistletoe the popular holiday
green to keep it fresh looking,
and extend the marketing life
and usefulness, has been devel
oped by Agricultural Marketing
Service researchers.
By dipping the mistletoe In
an inexpensive solution, the
leaves remain fresh and green,
and the berries are still firm
and white at leist 18 days after
treatment. .
Good results were obtained
by treating the mistletoe Willi
one of three plant hormones:
2.4-D, 2.4.5-T and alpha napth
thalene acetic acid, used at the
rate of 200 pails per million.
An aging inhibitor; NB benzyla
deninc, used at the rate of 100
parts per million, also was ef
fective. '
After treatment, the mistletoe
was dried in the air, then held
in cellophane bags vented ones
