i Jimmy Caras, four-time world
billiard champion and member
of Brunswick's billiard adviso
ry staff, will appear Thursday
at 2 end 7 p.m. in a billiard
exhibition at the Cushion Corner
in Klamath Falls.
The billiard expert will first
demonstrate billiard fundamen
tals, then hold an exhibition
match with local talent, and
conclude with an exhibition
demonstration of his famous
skill and trick shots. After the
exhibition, lie wilt give per
sonal instruction to those who
request it.
Caras, at 17, earned the tltlo
of "boy wonder of the billiard
world" by defeating Ralph
Greenleaf in an exhibition match
in 1927. Greenleaf was then
world billiard champion.
In 1936, he won the World's
Champion Billiard title, lie did
it asain in 1938, 19 and 1949.
He and Willie Mosconi share
the world's record high run of
127. Two movies produced by
Metro Goldwyn Mayer, were
made on Caras' and Mosconi's
trick sliots. The films played in
theaters throughout the w orld.
On the nationally televised
ABC 'Wido World of Sports"
presentation, Caras beat Mosco
ni, 125-tB, for tlie la Nation
al Pocket Billiard title.

Its upset beating at the

Washington Huskies still lead
the Big Six in three statistical
departments.
The Huskies have the best to

per game, compared with runner-up

Southern California has the
best total defense, allowing 234
yards per game compared with
second-place Washington State's
270; and has the best passing
defense, allowing only 79 yards

change in the top 10 from last
week, the Panthers taking over
fourth-place from the Spartans,
who replaced them in fifth.
Navy, enjoying the highest
ranking ever held by a service
team in the history of the rat
ings, fattened its hold on sec
ond place, drawing two No. 1
ballots. .Mississippi slipped but
clung to a three-point lead over

Desegregation Comes
To Southwest Teams
AUSTIN, Tex. (UPI) - The
University of Texas Monday be
came the first school in the
Southwest Conference to racial
ly desegregate its sports pro
gram. Most schools in the eight
member conference except
Rice and Arkansas were ex
pected to slowly integrate.
Coach Darrcll Royal, athletic
director at Texas, said he
would allow any eligible stu
dent to try out for 6ports.
"We will recruit anyone who
will fit in our program," Royal
said. "That is anyone who qual
ifies academically and athleti
cally." Texas' football team is unde
feated tliis season and top
ranked nationally.

Bauer, former New York
Yankee star who once piloted
the Kansas City Athletics, today
was named manager of the Bal
timore Orioles.
Bauer, who succeeds Billy
Hitchcock, was signed only for
the 1964 season, but General
Manager Lee MacPhail said
that "Hank has been my pref
