SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -The
San Francisco Forty Niners
take off today for New York
and their Sunday battle in the
Polo Grounds with the New
York Giants.
The departure was originally
scheduled for Saturday, but the
Prospector management agreed
to move it up a day at a cost
of about $1,000 in order to guar
antee the team a Saturday
workout in the Polo Grounds.
The Giants, defending king
pins of the Eastern Division
and co-leaders this year, are
17-point favorites in Sunday's
battle.
The Forty Niners ran through
a relaxed rainy day workout
Thursday at Redwood City.
Coach Jack Christiansen of
the Forty Niners. who says that
the Giants should rate as 25
point favorites, learned that of
fensive back Alex Webster and
tackle Roosevelt Brown might
miss the action for New York.
He was not impressed.
"They've been out before and
it hasn't made too much differ
ence. AH they do is call on
somebody just about as good,"
