Iliihliy Needs Doctor
Or Psychologist
By ANN LANDERS
Dear Ann Landers: May I
have a word with "Glad I Am
Single," the woman who wrote
the following r
lines: "If you ,
can show me
a man single
or married, ;
well, sick or '
- dying who is
not interested
in sex I will
eat the Sunday
edition of this newspaper."
Well, honey, you can start
jiibblin'. I'm married to such a
man and so is my sister.
Of course these sterling char
acters will not go to a doctor to
find out what Is wrong. A cou
sin who is a physician once told
me that 9 out of 10 men who
have no interest in sex are not
physically ill. Their problem is
psychological. Is this right?
FROZE OUT
Dear Out: Yes. The possibil
ity of an organic problem should
first be checked out by a phy
sician. If there l no physical
disability, the guy should go to
a head doctor and get that hor
net out of hla helmet.
Dear Ann Landers: The letter
from the mother who was indig
nant because tlio school would
not allow her precocious child
to enter kindergarten brought
back some painful memories. I
was the same kind of a fool.
Our daughter was precocious,
too. I went to tlio school prin
cipal and pressured him into ad
mitting Jessica although she
was only four years and two
months old at the time. Jessica
could read, print and recite
pages of poetry from memory.
From live first day at school
Jessica had trouble adjusting to
the oilier children. She was the
smallest one in her class and
also the shyest.
After two years of problems,
the principal summoned me to
his office and said he was go
ing to ask Jessica to repeat the
first grade. By then I was rea
. dy to admit 1 had made a mis
take. Jessica is in lite fourth grade
now and doing extremely well.
We are fortunate that her poor
start, which was tlie product of
my vanity, did not wreck her
completely. I'rint this if you
think It may help others.

Several women wrote to say
their children had been allowed
to skip grades and the results
were equally disastrous. Their
youngsters found themselves as

"keep up socially." They also
described some severe behav

Dear Ann Landers: My son
married a girl who came from
a family of alcoholics. Greta
quit high school to travel with
a magazino crew. Her reputa
tion was bad and my son knew
all this but he married her any
way. I was heartbroken.
From the day Greta became
my daughter-in-law I have kept
my mouth shut. I encouraged
her to go to night school and
get a high school diploma but
she refused. She has no interest
in herself, nor does she want a
family. She spends her time
cocktailliig with questionable
companions and shopping in the
stores.
Two weeks ago my son
dropped in on me at home with
a charming, attractive woman.
I was shocked but tried to bo
cordial and pleasant. Tlie next
day he phoned and said, "Well,
mother, what do you think of
her?" I replied, "So long as
you are married to Grela I
have no comment and please
don't bring women to my

SEATTLE (UPD-Mrs. Allan
Six, English and drama instruc
tor at Everett's Cascade High
School, planned to resign her
teaching position Tuesday in a
hassle over a word in a school
play.
Mrs. Six refused to change
the word "nigger" in Carson
McCullough's drama "A Mem
ber of the Wedding."
The controversy began about
tlie last of October, Mrs. Six
said while she was putting the
final polish on the play, a school
production.
"The father of one of the cast
members, a Negro, came to me
very nicely and asked me to
change the word 'nigger' where
it occurred in the play to black
boy' or some other phrase,"
Mrs. Six said.
Mrs. Six said she could not,
In good faith, tamper with such
a work of literature and the
father then talked with Burt
Colburn, principal of the school.
"Unfortunately, tlie father's
reasoning sounded plausible to
Mr. Colburn," Mrs. Six said.
"He left Mr. Colburn's office
with tlie impression the word
would be changed."
Colburn suggested the change
be made, Mrs. Six said, but she
said she would have no part in
mutilating the play. Colburn
then suggested dropping the
play altogether and Mrs. Six
agreed.
Mrs. Six said Colburn called
the cast and crew of the play
together last Tuesday, tlie day
before the play's preview, and
that the students were given
given until Wednesday morning
to decide if they wanted to put
on the play.
The cast voted to drop the
play at a meeting Wednesday
morning. However, another
meeting was called Wednesday
afternoon and this time the vote
favored putting on the play.
The play was presented, with
out a director, Thursday and
Friday.
Mrs. Six said she learned Fri
day she would he permanently
removed from all drama
classes.
"Drama is my major and the
only reason I drive all the way
up there is to teach in my
field." she said. "1 can teach
English a lot closer to home."
She said she called Colburn
Monday and told him she would
submit her resignation Tuesday.
Mrs. Six also said she called
the authoress In New York last
Thursday night and told her of
tlie proposed change.
"She told me it was 'absolute
ly unthinkable' and suggested I
contact her agent," Mrs. Six
said. "I've since sent her a
night letter to tell her her dis
approval made no difference."

lax pickets paraded in front of
tlie Capilol Building here Tues
day. More than a dozen student
members of the Greater Port

carried signs proclaiming
"Make Corporations Pay,"
"First Ta x SP Then Me,"
"Make PP&L Fork Over."
"Fork Over Crown Z" and "No
Sales Tax."
The group was headed by Jim
Berland, treasurer of the Great
er Portland Area Young Demo
crats. He said pickets from Eu
gene and Coos Bay were sched
uled to join tlie group later.
The students from Reed Col
lege and Portland State handed
out leaflets staling "we demand
progressive taxation."
Tliey said they were opposed
to taxes not based on ability
to pay.
"A sales t a x places the bur
den of taxation primarily on tlie
lower and middle income brack
ets. Though it is clear that addi
tional revenue must be raised
there are better ways of secur
ing these revenues than by a
sales tax," the leaflet said.

and discounted arguments that
it would trigger a spiral of

Heller made his latest pitch
for tlie House-passed $11 billion

which plans hearings until just
before Christmas, with little or
no likelihood of floor action this

Heller testified that tax reduc
