Education Signup Set
For North Luke County
FORT ROCK-Oct. 10 has been
set for discussion and probable
sign-up for a beginning continu
ing education program for North
Lake County. Interested residents
will meet at the Christmas Val
ley recreation hall at 8 p.m. with
Bob Johnson, director of the Cen
ral Oregon College program.
The school has been eager to
provide this service, according to
the president, Dr. Don Pence.
This will round out its service
area, with courses ottered this
year to the far corners of the
college district.
Contacts have been made
through the Fort Rock Parent
Teacher Association, headed by
Jack Gillette, president.
Adate has also been set for the
annual PTA carnival. The Hallo
ween event on Friday, Oct. 25,
will again be under the leader
ship of Mrs. Lawrence Rice, pri
mary teacher.
At the recent PTA opening ses
sion for the school year, the group
cleared payment of the balance
due on the recreation slab at
the school, and Mrs. Richard
'Brown was named room moth
er chairman for the year.
A certificate for a majority
enrollment of parents in the
school district was presented in

last year's membership chairman

as those here last spring which
resulted in more than 2,500 ar
rests.
Huuever, it appeared that at
least one of the demands by .e
groes might soon be met, possi'
bly heading off demonstrations in
this industrial center.
An advertisement appeared to
day in local newspapers signed
by more than 50 of tlte city's
most influential civic leaders and
calling for the employment of Ne
gro policemen. Among those sigiv
ing the ad were Arthur Wibel,
president of the Tennessee Coal
and Iron Division of U.S. Steel,
and former Mayor H. Cooper
Green.

list Church and it was considered
likely that king would announce
his decision there.
"I am taking seven of my co
workers," King said at his home
in Atlanta Sunday. "They are the
same peopie I had with me during
the movement (demonstrations)
in April and May.
"I will meet with local leaders
in the community and determine
whether it is necessary to resume
demonstations."
